No. I drink beer daily, often in the morning(like today) and tend to think of myself as a functioning alcoholic. I don't miss work, fight, fall down, puke or get hangovers(unless I hit the booze) My doctor has told me to quit drinking to save whats left of my liver. Unfortunately, alcoholism is very common in my family, and some things aren't that easy ... and

I drink 'less'... I dont enjoy the physical feeling of it the next day.. but recently ive not been able to score weed and have been drinkin every damn night to get to sleep (oh ive got some now).. that was odd but yeh in general I try to keep drinking to a couple of days a week.. which is just how it is if im seeing all of my friends and hangin out in public
I agree with the feeling expressed i nthis thread that 'quittin' is a harsh thing to say , instead of like .. 'reducing and seeing how it feels'. that is of course, if all your friends drink

One of my problems is that I drink fast, I drink 2-3 beers in the time it takes other people to drink one. Also, I get antsy when other people are drinking around me and Im not drinking.

I stopped drinking cuz my liver hurt a lot and was turning yellow, now I just stick with weed and may have a drink with dinner if we go out to eat but that is it. It is much better being high and in control than being a shitfaced idiot, waking up only to hope you didn't do something you regret, and hangovers....mine get so bad it isn't worth it. You can tell it is a poison just by how you feel after...go natural and you have less to worry about.

Alcohol is natural.
Alcoholism runs in my family. I've been an alcoholic and I really don't ever want to live through it again. It was horrible. Driving drunk and waking up the next day wondering if I'd actually driven. Finding bizzare messages in my "sent messages" outbox. Hangovers are seriously horrible though. Pot makes me overeat and I put on weight quickly and I feel like a fat lazy slob when I smoke pot a lot, but being an alcoholic is horrible. It really screws my mood up.
Anyone else get serious anxiety from drinking regularly? That's the one thing I noticed mostly as an alcoholic. After waking up, I'd feel so worried and nervous. I wasn't sure if the sickness in my stomach was some kind of gutrot from hard liquor or if it was anxiety. I'd take a few drinks and it would go away. It's horrible when you get to the point that it takes a few drinks just to few normal. I liked drinking once every few months. I could feel half a pint of beer (I'm relatively thin at 82 kg).
I also told myself that I drank to sleep, but alcohol interferes with good sleep and it causes me to get less sleep than I otherwise would. I end up feeling fatigued, but I become too anxious to really feel tired. It must be a bit like being a malnourished soldier after too long in combat: not enough good sleep, by far, but feeling way too on edge and frightened to be remotely tired. Horrible feeling.
Then there's the problem eating. I always had to force food down or just eat shitty, fatty food like McDonalds to be able to eat. It had to be simple. My stomach would hurt so much that often I could only eat salads and McDonalds.
After enough alcoholism, I stopped getting hangovers though. That's when I realized how it was ridiculous for anyone to brag about their ability to hold their liquor. I would buy myself a 40 oz of vodka everyday and drink at least 30 oz every night in a few hours before bed. I woke up feeling fine by the time I got to that. Luckily my liver is fine.
Those days don't haunt me anymore because they're so alien that I can't even relate to what it feels like. I just described it but I still don't remember the mindset on a gut level.

about 20 years ago I went on a 3 year bender I got to the point where I could drink a fifth of everclear in 6 hours and it would just barely blur my vision one night at 4:00 am it hit me that I was staying up just because I had beer to drink then I started adding up how much it was coasting me (in dollers) to drink the way I was drinking that's when I quit alcohol

Working on drinking less here. Very rarely I go a day with out at least a nightcap. From there I range from a drink with dinner or up to 10 drinks on a party night (strong drinks). Taking it one day at a time and making progress.

I have basicly given up drinking, for a few reasons. First off in order to get to a point where you are getting paradigm shifts and other neat perceptual pleasentries you need to drink alot. For one night of drunken bliss I would spend about $20, thats like a third of a quarter of weed so a 12th I guess, which would last me longer than one night. I hate the next day hangover, something you don't get with weed. I'm also more of an asshole when I'm drunk, weed makes me less of an ass.
I also figure if people started spending less money on alcohol almost boycotting it, it might help to send a legalization message to the government. If people keep buying alcohol to unwind why bother legalizing weed.

Word! I always had to turn my phone off and make sure I have what I need for the night. Or else I might seriously get stupid any careless and drive to get something. I also have a very hard time not smoking while drinking and I am trying to not smoke SO BAD (just cigs). I can go for a week or two and have a few drinks and the craving for smokes is ridiculously overwhelming. I think I will do the weening off of the hard liquor or just drop it and have a few beers. I think that might be a good way to look at it. Just have a beer with some buddies now and then. Seems willpower and keeping your mind busy might be the only way to do it, giving up drinking that is.

I gave up drinking like a fucking moron... but I still have a beer or margarita once in awhile.
I've lost weight and I feel better overall not drinking beers all week. I try to limit myself to 5 drinks in any given 24 hour period. It's enough to get warm and fuzzy, but far short of vomiting and making an ass of myself.
Usually, I'll just have a drink or two when I eat out at a restaurant... At home, I drink Chimay or Patron margaritas. yummy.

I gave up drinking completely for over a year a while back. Several irresponsible binge drinking nights (involving falling over in the street, shooting each other with bb guns, running around outside at 3am, etc etc) coupled with my first acid trip really put me in an anti-alcohol mindset for about a year. After I became more familiar with psychedelics and became really in tune with how different chemicals effect my body I began drinking socially again.
I now really really enjoy sitting down with a nice beer or some Southern Comfort to compliment my greens. I have yet to get shitty drunk though since I began my psychedelic journey. I feel much safer and healthier now that I'm not pounding back 15 shots of cheap vodka every couple nights.
