I was actually very surprised to see a mantis out this time of year. I figured they were all gone by now. There has been allot of very wet weather lately, and there has been a couple nights of below freezing temps. A very welcome and pleasant surprise.

i used to live in a campground where the mantises would congregate in the shower for residual heat. it was a bit creepy.

I my neck of the woods, SW WA they are all over, they were originally brought in to control the grasshoppers. I see em all the time in the late summer, but never this time of year.

It's my desktop wallpaper on my work laptop. I always tell the colleagues "isn't that a great shot of that mantis?". None of them even takes note of what it is sitting on...
