 Is she spinning clockwise or anti-clockwise?Are you sure?It would seem that she is spinning in both directions when we are not observing, but when we do, she is spinning in only one! It seems our conscious observation collapses this wave function, this probability cloud, this superposition. Heres a deep thought... Do you think we can get a unconscious measuring device or computer to tell us which way she is spinning? Or do we actually have to see it with our conscious mind?

shes gonna spin clockwise. No one spins counter-clockwise off the left foot try it, its awakward. lol and whats this have to do with quantum physics?

I've never been able to see this one go counterclockwise.
Some of my friends in the office swear that the animation changes directions. But this is obviously not the case.
It is only a collection of stills played in a certain order. To say that this has something to do with uncertainty is absurd.
NOTHING is spinning. In either direction.

Why would it seem that she's spinning in both directions. It wouldn't seem anything if I'm not looking at it. Something must exist for it to seem.

if you stare off into the distance... and dont focus on it, you can make it spin opposite of what you see when you look directly at it. I see it clockwise. I made it go counter for a few seconds, but then lost it and it started clockwise again.

It has to do with one side of the brain vs the other. I have to do math problems in my head to make it spin the other direction.

Stop making this stupid illusion into something more profound. It's going clockwise, and if you blur your eyes you can kind of get it to go the other way. Let's pretend we're in grade six everyday.

I saw this picture yesterday and it was going counterclockwise. Today it's going clockwise. I don't think we should make anything more of it.

In quantum physics, things don't really exist until we observe them. Until we observe, the object is simply a cloud of possibilities. In this case, the possibilities are clockwise or anti-clockwise.
Your conscious observation stops the cloud of possibilities (the superposition) and focuses it on one or the other: clockwise or anti-clockwise. This is called collapsing the wave function by observing. It doesn't happen until your mind believes it is spinning one way or the other.
Can't get her to change direction? Focus on her planted foot. This is YOUR universe. Take charge.

This is quite interesting. It's not about quantum mechanics or anything of the like -
It's about depth perception, and which leg you perceive to be the one that is planted, the left one or the right one. You can change the direction of spinning at will by staring at the foot and perceiving it to be coming around one way or the other, and then, based on that perception, your brain automatically interprets the rest of the image as such. Since there's no real depth to the image and it's only solid black, your brain makes up what it can from what little information it has, and thus the subsequent confusion. This makes my eyes hurt after a while.
Edit: I stand corrected, good explanation, it all makes sense now. Shows what I know about quantum physics!  Although, I do think it probably has more to do with depth perception and the lack of information. If your brain was able to stop the "cloud of possibilities" as you say, like this in every day situations, life would be quite a bit more interesting.

I am pretty certain that conscious observation is not required according to quantum mechanics... only observation is.
If you claim that consciousness is required, please point to an equation in quantum physics that explicitly deals with consciousness.

For those who prefer stills to animation:
 Stare at this cube for awhile. The blue side of the cube will appear to be either on the inside or outside of the cube. It's either the closest side of the cube or the farthest away. You'll see it switch back and forth the more you stare at it. This is a quantum superposition of 2 different cubes as we cannot see both at once. Your observation collapses the quantum wave function to one state or the other. Don't try too hard, you may find your head asplode!!

Cool optical illusion, but how does this have anything to do with waveform collapse?
Two dimensional figures are ambiguous to our neural perceptive systems: when filtering through an overload of sensory data in an attempt to interpret the data, our brain can give different models of reality. No need to bring in physics when it's simply differing perceptions in the visual cortex.
