help with contamination - what is this on my uncased bulk tray?
    #9250088 - 11/15/08 05:52 PM (4 years, 6 months ago)

I posted this in contamination forum, so here is a link to there:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/9250012/an/0/page/0

I posted it there but then realized nobody really looks in that forum, there is only 1 viewing compared to 60 viewing this one most times.... sorry if that pisses the mods off ,  but I am just linking not double posting for the help...?

oh mycelium!  thats what we're growing - should have been my first guess. :smirk:

no, its got some coloration...bluish green.  I know mycelium, and this was some kind of contamination.  And it looks about the same after being doused.

whatever it is, it set into probably all 8, (6 for sure) during the very end of the bulk run.  2 weeks is too long to let colonize, and this contamination popped up right after 2 weeks when I figured I should fruit the trays or risk losing to contamination - which I did - I was just too late.

This is the same contamination, but this one I doused with peroxide and fruited anyways (I trashed the other 6 cause whatever this was had eated up the majority of the surface).  This contaminant got thicker and nastier in the last couple of days.

I already pitched it into the compost pile...  I isolated from my work area then cut into it with a knife, revealing more green nastyness then the pictures actually show.  Maybe it is trich... but not like I have seen it before...

My spawn was good, so my conclusion is it is either one of these, or a combination of multiples:

1.  Too low of spawn, which leads to too long of spawn run, which allows contaminants to gain a stronger hold
2.  Pastuerization method sucked - parts were pasteurized properly, while other parts of my bags were over pasteurized, killing beneficial bacteria and causing the contaminant
3.  Too moist substrate

I'm leaning towards point #1 and #2... but 3 qts in a 12qt sweater box is a pretty heavy ratio already.... fuck shit I dunno

any input folks?

Linking Shminking!  Same thing as a double post in my opinion.  (Same question in two different places right?).  I'm feeling a bit like an idiot right now, cuz I tried to help and asked a question that was right on the damn subject line.  sorry.  Anyways,

sorry dude it really did look like myc to me.  But I'm still rather noobish...I'm currently on the spawn run of my first ever bulk grow...it's been three days and it's colonizing...much to my utter amazement.  Sorry for your loss man.

Peace.
