Only been 30 years since a bunch of utopian seekers gave their personal power away to one man in the hopes of salvation and got the surprise of a lifetime.

by kool-aid, you must mean the electric kool-aid acid test.

I hear they're doing pretty well in the afterlife, actually. Your sources must be inherently biased and heretical.

I think a remake of the dramatization is in order.
I look at this happening as one of the most interesting in human history.

A doc was on TV about the event today. Watching the scene of the aftermath with all the dead bodies my GF commented on how even the dog was dead.

Massacre? Is that what they're calling it?

I don't have too much sympathy for the adults but it really bothers me about the kids. They had no choice.

I have sympathy for the adults to some extent.
When they were lied to they couldn't make a choice. When they were told outside society was coming to kill and destroy them and their family they had incentive to kill themselves and their children.
If Jim Jones had simply preached his beliefs that would be a different story, but he lied to those folks about what happened and what he knew.

Jones began with a compassionate motive base, but power corrupted him, utterly. He visited a well-known Black cult leader, Father Divine, from whom he took tips on how to exploit members sexually (Jones eventually exploited both genders). His paranoid grandiosity was fueled by stimulant drugs, which of course required depressant drugs to balance them out, but depression with psychotic features was the outcome and he was able to employ sociopathic henchmen to murder those seeking escape from his control. Runners were shot. I recommend seeing the film Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones. Good portrayal. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080832/

They would have had to shoot me. No way I would go down passively if I knew it was poisoned.

They mostly volunteered. They dropped in their places, arms around one another - except for children whose mouths they squirted the cyanide-KoolAid with syringes.

If you believe hard enough, you no longer fear death. Just look at Muslim suicide bombers, and you see the same thing.
