This was my 1st attempt at the pf tek using the EQ strain. I was very happy with the pin sets but disappointed with the size of the mushrooms which dried out to about .2g each -- Any insight on what I could do to increase the size of these guys?

what size cakes are those 1/4pints? thats what it looks like i dunno whats up with your cakes my mini casing is only putting out small mushies stems look exactly like yours and they dry to be hollow as a straw...and im using b+ strain...hopefully someone with more knowledge can help but from what i understand try more FAE and misting.....
EDIT: i just reviewd the pics the mycelium looks like its blue from bruising...thats a sign of lack of moisture inside cake from what i understand might want to pick all the mushrooms then give them a 24 hr dunk..

I think it has to do with the large amount of mushrooms you have on each cake. If you have that many, they can only get so big. How many grams TOTAL dry mushrooms did each cake put out? Keep in mind that the average yield for a 1/4 pint cake is only like 3.5g dry for ALL flushes. I'd be happy w/ those results personally, as small mushrooms are more potent per gram than larger ones.

Haha, that's what I was thinking too. That is a TON of mushies, small size or not. And from my experience as well, the small ones pack a whallop.
I actually think you did pretty awesome for a 1st grow!

Perhaps you can increase the nutrients since the size of your cakes are probably what's constraining the size potential of your fungi.
Any ideas on additional nutrients might help.
Just a thought.

Nice first grow lots of good lookin little mushies
with cakes the only thing you could really do to increase the size of you shrooms would be to use half pints or stack your quarter pints and provide even more FAE while they're in the FC (just remember to mist before hand every time)

Thanks for the comments -- each cake produced about 4g dry so I guess thats not too bad, I also had a batch of B+ going at the same time which produced about 3g dry per cake but I found the B+ trip to be lacking, more of just a body high.. I am looking forward to trying out these little EQ's this weekend -- hopefully yall are right about the little guys packing a punch. The cakes are 1/2 pint btw.

4g dry on 1 flush is very good. with that many shrooms there's no way they were gonna get much bigger. the tradeoff is a bunch of small shrooms, or a couple large shrooms - i'd definitely rather a bunch of small ones.

These shrooms suck! Had some friends over and we all ate 4+g and no one tripped! B+ only gave a weak ass body high and a week later EQ didnt do shit!
What the hell? Can someone take a stab at why the fuck we did not trip.. why these mushrooms suck?

grow them on rye and manure/straw. plus it could just be the strains genetics. take spores and do another grow. potency fluctuates with them.

The ones we ate were fresh -- I dried most of them in a nesco dehydrator but kept some fresh because we were eating them shortly after harvest..
I have some more brf jars already colonizing at the moment -- what would you suggest I do with them (spawn to..) because I dont want to do cakes and get some weak ass shit again

I dont know the temperature of the nesco I used -- And I have already realized this problem and will purchase a dehydrator with temp control for future drying but I ate fresh mushrooms, not the dried ones.
And I will look into spawning these brf cakes to hpoo and coir, thanks.

thats weird
last time i used a dehydrator the potency sucked(glad i only had a lil bit in there)
now i do what i used to,dehydrator racks on top of a fan
dry in less than a day
try that see if it works for you

Was that 4 gms a piece or between you all. I'm assuming that it was a piece and that it was 4 gms wet weight which would do nothing but give you a body high. You need at least 10 gms wet or 1 gm dry (per person!) to "enjoy a day at the park with shrooms. If you want to "EXPERIENCE LIFE" then your talking 300 gms wet or 3 gms dry. Oh hell, now that I'm thinking about it this all of a sudden belongs in the Psychedelic Experience Forum. (Those are "generic" and "PERSONAL" weights to trip level measurements and should not be taken as "recommended" dosage amounts!!!!)

Yea I really can't understand how you didn't trip off 40-50g fresh! That's a big dose man.. Why did you take that much? If they were legit you guys would have been sooo gone.
Where did you get the spores from btw?

We ate 40-50g wet each and just got a body high for an hour or two. The EQ gave a little bit of a stronger body high than the B+ but just a body high nevertheless. They were taken 1 week apart. I just dont understand! They look damn good, lots of blueing and everything, but the trip just never happened. Pretty frustrating.
And the spores were from Ralphsters.
