I am having a tough time coating the screws with the paint... It seems like I will need many many coats of the paint in order to cover all the metal

5 coats was enough for me. Did you shake the can really well?

sure did. I think I am on my 4th coat now. I am using a small piece of wood to place the screws on when painting. I place the screws on their side and then spray. After the paint dries I pick up the screws (some stick to the wood) and when I unstick the ones that are dried to the wood, a piece of paint comes off of them revealing the metal... How do you get around this problem denger?

Sounds like you'r overspraying. I Put the pieces on a paper towel and sprayed lightly one side. When it dried, I turned them over and sprayed another side. I do not remember them sticking. A light coar is always best - it dries faster, more uniform etc. All you need is a sufficient barrier from water.

My LC jars all have large chunks of myc in them... So I have a few questions:
1. How will I be able to tell that the LC is ready for use?
2. Am I supposed to suck in the solution into the syringe, or must I suck in part of the chunk of myc?
3. Should I vigorously shake the jar before transferring to syringe in order to break up the chunk?

1. You'll just know. It's an indescribable sensation. You might be in the shower, or walking the dog or watching a bad movie on TV, and suddenly the jar will call to you.
Or you could wait something like 7-10 days after inoculation.
2. Good luck sucking that mycelium chunk through the needle!
3. Yes. Yes you should. The point here is to get things broken up a lot, so that you're injecting each spawn jar with a consistent amount of mycelium. More surface area will also aid in colonization speed once the mycelium recovers.

I'm currently looking for cultures of the following species:
Calocybe indica, Chlorophyllum rachodes, Lentinula boryana, Polyporus umbellatus

Thanks for the reply. So when I shake the jar before sucking into the syringe, should I just use my finger to cover the hole on the top of the jar? or must I use like an alcohol swabbed glove or something?

I'm a little confused here. Your lids are covered with tyvek, aren't they?
You shouldn't shake, you risk getting your filter material wet. Swirl the liquid around, changing directions periodically. If you put broken glass in the jar, that will help shred it up.

Yes I have tyvek over the lids, but I remember I read one TEK where you take off the lid ring and the tyvek (in a glove box) and shake the jar vigorously while holding your finger over the non-rtv hole... but it seems that this is not necessary from what you are saying.

Er.. Yeah.. You know, many of the techniques found on this site aren't as good as the tried and true methods. Wow. I'm sounding like a grumpy old man.

Ah ok. Well thanks for the advice. So I should swirl it around once a day? or do you just do that right before sucking it into the syringe?

Uh... I just do a lot of swirling before I make up a syringe. But that's because I'm lazy.
