Just do lots and lots of multispore grows on cakes, and when you come across a strain that fruits large on a cake, clone and isolate it and grow it on a better substrate. Then take the largest fruits you get and clone and isolate them.

i was speaking of doing side by side grows of the same strain from 2 diferent sources.keep both separate over many generations using spores from the largest fruit. once you notice a generation with all large fruits in both grows. mix the largests spore prints from both grows togather. the keep it goin as one grow. mixing the prints would revive vigor in the grow by adding variation:of the large kind:.. . no isolation yet. isolate when you reach your goal of a monster fruit. find the substrain responsable for the large gennnetics in the fruit and you will have a monster isolate. we werent talking about mixing diferent strains.

There's more nutrients in brown rice than in poo or coir or any of that stuff. Shrooms are just smaller on cakes because cakes aint that big.

I think this would be a great project. The only problem I see is that it's not as easy to cross the two strains as just putting the spores from the two sources into the same media. They may mate, but you'de never know for sure, especially with a swab of spores.
I'm sure others here know much more about it then me, but a method I've read about and plan on trying is making dilutions of the spores. You would take a small amount of spores, and mix it with say 10cc (1 syringe worth) of sterile water... You would then use a few drops of that to mix a whole other syringe. From there you would streak some of the secondary diluted spore water over some agar plates.
I commented on this once before in a little more detail here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/8932110#Post8932110
And I found the book online (full version and all I was surprised) You can read about it here:

seems like having equal portions of each source of spores in a regular syringe (non-diluted but not dark) and inoculated into a grain jar would give highest chances of mating between the two sources of the same strain.
