I just got photoshop 6 and haven't played around with it too much yet, but its definitely not like the old school Paint which is the only other computer art program i've used.. So i'm just wondering what is the best way to learn it. I tried with the Help but it was really confusing. any suggestions?

there are a lot of online tutorials and forums dedicated to photoshop users... you could easily learn a lot of stuff from there. really the best thing to do is to let it suck you in and absorb into you. play with everything... get used to what everything does so that you know where to go when you have an idea.
have fun!

I learned Photoshop merely by messing around with it on my own for the past 4 years or so ... however, I don't suggest that at all ... if you need any specific help or general starting hints, you can ask me, or I'd recommend Smack, he is epic at Photoshop ...
Layers are, in my opinion, the most important part of Photoshop, because of how useful they can be when used right ... learn layers, and you'll be ready to take over the world ...

Check out the Filters, you can do some neat stuff with very little effort using those. Also look for more filters and plugins on Kazaa Lite, especially KPT (Kai Power Tools) and Eye Candy.

The best work done in Photoshop is unfortunately the work that takes the most time to learn, and is almost 100% manual ... filters can make cool little pictures, but if you are going to want to make anything epic you'll need to learn everything about the program and use filters as little as possible.
If you don't think PS7 is that great then you obviously haven't learned a thing about it yet ...

that's why all my work sucks
seriously though, that's one thing i have always admired about your work, you actually hand draw shit and put real talent into it.
