I want to be healthy...
    #9148886 - 10/28/08 02:18 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

...and despite my three years of learning how and applying it to my life I am still sick. Don't get me wrong, I have made lots of progress. I was fat, constipated, had terrible acne, leaky gut, bad digestion, bad body odor, just an overall feeling of dirty/weak. It's been a long three years and I have become a different person. I started eating really clean. Organic whole grains, vegetables, fruits, a little bit of dairy. I cut out all the nasty refined food. I drank more water. Started doing yoga. I have fasted for over a week twice now. I oil pull everyday. I recently gave up meat and so far it feels good. To sum it up, I have lots of healthy habits.

Now here is where I have a problem. It's like my body won't get better. It's like I won't heal. I get these huge boil like cysts under my skin. I have scars now from getting them so much. They go all along my back and around to my face. It is just so frustrating because if most people just gave up sodas or something they would feel a zillion times better. I am eating very healthy and still get sick, wtf? Aside form the cysts, I feel emaciated. I am 6'3" and 165 pounds on a good day. It seems very difficult to maintain a healthy weight. I also feel really weak like my muscles are fucking putty. What do I do? I go to the doctors but they give me antibiotics for the skin and tell me I'm fine. The antibiotics don't help, it might get a little better but as soon as I come off of them it attacks again, worse then before. So wtf?

Go back to the doctor say it still isn't working and be assertive. Otherwise i can't help you much> Congratulations on becoming more healthy though.

If you feel weak try eating meat again and see how you feel. TRY, not MUST. You tried being vegetarian, so why not?

As for the rest, check into dietary intolerances. Your first paragraph sounds EXACTLY like me a couple of years ago, and so does your second. No matter how hard I followed the basic health diet (Kashi cereal, fruits, oats, whole wheat pasta, lean beef, chicken, fish, etc...) I felt unenergetic, crappy, and like I only improved 40% from my past self. Then I cut out some shit and am way better.

Make sure you are eating enough, too. Last week I decided to I want to add a whole bunch of mass so I'm eating like a hog. God damn do I feel good. Don't get me wrong, now's not the time to visit the chinese buffet. But at least get enough food to match your activity levels, keep your carbs spread throughout the day, and keep it at least pretty healthy. I still have a little bit of junk in my diet (which is actually pretty healthy junk, but still junk), but a majority of my calories comes from the good stuff.

Check in to probiotics and prebiotics.  A poor diet & antibiotics can wipe out all the beneficial bacteria in your gut.  Additionally, you may need to go on a cleansing diet in order to restore your intestinal walls to their optimal condition.

You should start eating meat again, IMO.
But MAKE SURE it is 100% grass-fed meat. That's really important. If you can stand organs eat those too. Organs from grass-fed animals are truly health-giving. Liver, heart, etc. Your diet looks like it is very disproportioned when it comes to omega-3s and omega-6s. You probably need more omega-3s than you're currently getting (and don't bother with cheap fish oil pills, or seed oils like flax). They need to come from animal sources.
Try cutting the grains and dairy. They are not healthful.

and quit the antibiotics, like someone above said, they kill off EVERYTHING and that is not good at all

Boxcar, I used to be an only meats & veggie person too but finally realized that grains have their place.

You can be healthy while eating grains, and they certainly have their place when someone is active. Of couse you should control them, but to completely deny their existance isn't going to be of benefit.

By the way don't go on a cleanse diet. They are bullshit. If you are constipated up your fiber, or at least do something that includes food. Don't go on a starvation diet and don't buy into those detox kits. Poo does NOT case in your intestines like a poo sausage unless you have diverticulosis or something to that effect. Fasting is also a really bad idea (for this purpose) especially if you are already emaciated. Talk about metabolism crash.

To get healthful, I usually find the eat healthy food and wait trick works wonders. Your body is craving nutrients, whatever they may be. Depriving yourself of them, doing special tricks, or taking special pills is not the solution 95% of the time.

Eat as many raw fruits and vegetables as you can.  Make your raw percentage pretty high, and you will notice a difference in your health issues.

thanks for the replies guys. pyro and boxcar, I think I will be getting some chicken next week. the whole reason I dont eat meat every week is because I refuse to eat that warehouse raised shit, the good stuff is just so darn expensive.

When I cut out meat, I felt a lot more energetic, and my body just felt better. Numerous sources say similar things; eating little or no meat is generally an extremely healthy decision. Keep it up, and make sure you find a form of exercise you enjoy!

By the way, look into sublingual meth b12 tabs. At one point I was glutened and my b12 went out the window so taking these made hell of a difference. It was like getting an extra 8 hours of sleep a day for the first three days.

That's source naturals. Don't know why they censored the label.

I'm in the same type of boat and could say a lot, but on the issue of weight. I'm even thinner than the OP. But we have to realize that carrying a bunch of weight is common in this society, so we look a LOT skinnier than most people who are at least slightly overweight. This is my #1 issue. I used to body build and I'm down nearly 50 pounds from my peak. I'm 6'4, and I basically think I look like a coat hanger with a shirt over it. It can be pretty demoralizing.

I've been through and done pretty much all of it the past 5 years, and while I look better than anyone I know who is my age, I want more. Maybe I was so goofed up when I started that it's not really an option.

Hang in there, as Lefty said, it's a lifelong journey, not a destination. Or maybe that was Areosmith :strokebeard:

you shouldnt give information that isnt true:

"You probably need more omega-3s than you're currently getting (and don't bother with cheap fish oil pills, or seed oils like flax). They need to come from animal sources.
Try cutting the grains and dairy. They are not healthful."

1.  fish oil, flax oil and other oils can and do meet the needs of many people's omega 3/6 ratios. its all about proportions and what you eat.

2. you dont NEED meat to get everything you need. there are millions of people worldwide who eat NO meat whatsoever and are perfectly healthy.

3. grains and dairy are VERY healthful. it depends on the source of the dairy, how it has been processed(preferably not at all) and when you drink/eat it(is an awesome protein/fat combo to eat/drink when youre not sick.)  who told you that whole grains are not healthful?  because theyre seriously misinformed.

all wholesome and natural food has its place in diet, its all about proportions and the correct ratios.

what do you consider cleanse diet? because i have done several "cleanse" diets and fasts before and i felt better than ever and more energized than ever afterwards.  i agree not to do a fast while constipated or emaciated though.

I was not referring to "fad" cleanse diets, which do little more than starve the body of nutrients.  A cleansing diet is one which includes highly alkaline foods & superfood supplementation.  Rather than a fast it is a nutrient feast for the body, and the alkalinizing foods allow the beneficial flora to be restored & flourish.

Once the digestive system (and the rest of the body) is restored to a healthy alkalinity, and the gut is fully-stocked with flora, it can handle a few acidifying foods without getting totally out of balance.

Same here - the longer I go the better it gets.  (water or juice)

A fruitarian diet isn't a fad cleanse either and you don't starve yourself on it.  You consume just as many calories as you need, only on fruit.  Some people do find it very cleansing and thrive on it.
