If we can find no empirical basis for Ultimate meaning, doesn't this suggest that it does not exist? It seems to me that this is the difference between "what is THE meaning" and "what is YOUR meaning." The former suggests that THE meaning exists, whereas the latter acknowledges that it (very likely) does not.

If everyone has his/her own meaning of her/his life, then it's strongly assumable that the general meaning of life is to give us the ability to have our own meaning (like a placeholder, a container)

It is kind of both actually.
Ya see, I always had a problem with finding a good correlate to the word. Meaning also seems to contain no properties unto itself. It's like We all understand it but cannot explain it.
I like the term resonance because it means one thing, and me
Main Entry: mean·ing Pronunciation: \ˈmē-niŋ\ Function: noun Date: 14th century 1 a: the thing one intends to convey especially by language : purport b: the thing that is conveyed especially by language : import 2: something meant or intended : aim <a mischievous meaning was apparent> 3: significant quality ; especially : implication of a hidden or special significance <a glance full of meaning> 4 a: the logical connotation of a word or phrase b: the logical denotation or extension of a word or phrase — meaning adjective — mean·ing·ly \-niŋ-lē\ adverb
_______________________________________
MW's defintion works, but it is missing precision. If the definition ITSELF is a Noun, it is confusing to what qualities or properties that noun has. If meaning is resonance and rezzy is vibratory feedback in relation to a smaller vibratory feedback, than since we can observe properties we can guage resonance or meaning before it happens, kinda.
It is kind of like don't bring a bagpipe to a string quartet. It MIGHT sound good...we don't know it for certain, but using this example measured against conventional music logic it MIGHT sound good. Meaning is context for me.
My words might not mean much in certain communties, lexicons, systems, programs, games...they might serve dissonance-who knows?
So I can safely assume gravity has identical resonance for 99% of things, where as I have many names!(c) might vart wildy. I love words that ring true almost every time, though. I think of them as perfect pitch words. Love playing in and out of keys.
Anyway, I've always been a word and conversation/linguaphile, so meaning having a functional correlate has definitley fit into how I already looked at the word.
No pressure, just a card I overlooked in the set.
