Chanterelle Sucess!

Went to my usual hedgehog territory but only found a handful. Decided to try a new area and walked down a gated road into 20-50 yr. old doug fir forest. Wasn't long before I found some beautiful chanterelles. More than made up for the lack of hedgies.
This was growing on a living hemlock tree

Just can't get away from the muscaria

funky clubs on a downed log

little candy corns

Must stop taking photos of coral!

First of the Chanties.

some puffballs

turkey tail imposter

almost walked right by these...actually I did on the way up but I found the little guys on my return

you can see why

pink coral!

the bounty

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC. I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi. I really do. I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them. I think they are beautiful. I even dream of them.

Thanks, Psylygirl. I'd like to find a patch like you and @cro's. So far I'm batting 000 on the actives. On the bright side I've already bagged some kings, matsutaki, yellow chanterelles, white chanties and hedgehogs this season and definitely found some bountiful areas that I can return to. Here's the bounty spread out
the Chanterelles

the hedgehogs

and I couldn't resist taking some chanterelle landscape photos

Excellent thread, tonebone.
Is it true that matsutaki have a market value? Can you sell them in the PNW?

yeah, if you go to the well known hotspots there are buyers set up along the roads and stuff...
I read they were paying around $25/lb. for #1's a week or 2 ago here in WA, then it went down to $18, that was the last I heard.

Dang. We only found three a few weeks ago. There was this wild-eyed seasoned hunter who basically told us he had been there for a week and there was nothing within a mile. We proved him wrong!

Thanks spores. That sounds dirt cheap to me. I wish I had been there I would have picked up a couple of pounds. Fresh Ceps were selling for $40 a pound in NYC. I thought that was a bit pricey. I heard masutake sold for big bucks. I guess that was just a rumor.

I think in Japan, they're real pricey.

nice . they're probably popping nicely down there still, I think they're about done in the cascades up here, warm day temps last week brought up another little flush, but most of the ones I was finding over the weekend were past prime. there were a few 1's and 2's scattered around, but only down around 2500'... everywhere I looked above 3000' or so seemed to be done...

Supply and demand then, LS. Anyone know if they're mycorrhizal? I looked briefly but couldn't find anything.

that's the price the pickers were getting. I heard $40-50/lb. was the going price at the local farmers markets and asian grocery store...
they are mycorrhizal with several different trees...
www.matsiman.com has about anything you'd want to know about them ...
