like everyone said most major chain stores, from my experience will not carry vermiculite or will carry it in large quantities, just small bags. I went to my local grain store (have to love these places) and they had 20lb bags of verm for $20 a bag. Check all local shops, most larger nurseries should have it because indoor plant growers use this stuff all the time! Or if you have a local grain place that has some landscaping supplies try there. Get the biggest they have, save yourself the trouble of finding it again. Make sure to grab a PC if you are going to do grains.

colonize WBS > mix it up with peat moss or coir > birth > profit.

wal-mart is the anti-christ... their prices are not as low as they used to be (not relating to inflation but the discount rather). IE example (I am a beer vendor) stores in my area sell 30 packs (in my state it is all government regulated so all prices are exactly the same between all major brands ie budweiser, miller lite (the best lite beer wink wink), and coors) for 19.99 and wally world sells it for 19.97. WHOA such a big difference. Wal-Mart does not have bargains like they used to. In many cases it is more expensive than Target or any local grocery shop for sweatshop made items. Do not shop there, also I was an assistant manager at one time at Wal-Mart, I know that store cold (I WAS DESPERATE FOR MONEY ha, they do pay rather well).

I highly doubt that there's no vermiculite where you live. Try yellowpages.com, and search keyword "garden". You'll get a list of small garden businesses you never knew existed. Support your local garden centres; places like Home Depot, Walmart, just kill local businesses :frown:

LOL. Nope , sorry bud but my town is horrid on common sense anything!

2 bags of vermiculite left at the ACE store, they won't restock until next spring so i'm going to grab the verm tomorow.
Although my town has at least 20 liquor stores, plenty of fast food and gas stations, we have only ONE pet store. I bought the last bit of coir from them over the summer, and just ran out 2 weeks ago (after 9 bricks).

NO coir at all left at our ONLY pet store. They have plenty of lizards, yet no more coir. You don't believe me, we can make a monetary bet in person. This town is hell. It is hellacious, and communistic enough to send russian politburo members running in fear. I kid you not, as this has actually happened.

edit: However there are bags of miracle grow moisture control, and a few select bags of jiffy mix still available. That is the closest i can get to strait verm, or straight coir. It's bullshit. (Literally, bullshit is the only way to grow here!)

It was 20 dollars for 2 3packs of bricks here. That sight is still a mighty fine deal.

Check the shipping though cause depending on were you are at locally might be a better deal...  There standard shipping was 7.99 now its 9.99 fucking economy..

so you could get 2-3packs 7.38 plus 9.99 shipping is 17.37 for 6 bricks

Very true I only do 3 tubs at a time and my tubs are 27 qt tubs so I use one brick of coir per tub and the brick makes about 4.5 inches of substrate in the bottom my the tub..

Well if stores are running out of coir, why not recycle stuff. coffee grounds are free and paper is easy to come by.

Cubes can grow on paper. im sure spawn mixed with fresh coffee grounds and spawned to paper and carbboard would do pretty ok.

You will be helping reduce landfill waste and getting cubies!
