I decided to start this post after browsing the 'Ambient/Experimental Albums Thread' and making my internet company very bitter.
Please suggest, melodic, proggy, rock stuff. Everyone already knows Tool, Pink Floyd!
My suggestion: Pain Of Salvation - BE http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=9b4e0dae38c07abfab1eab3e9fa335cad8f648b49ddd8fff It's a very epic album. I wasn't too much of a fan until I saw the DVD and it all made sense. I suggest listening to this with head phone, and all the way through. It's a conceptual album based on 'God' Really nice orchestral arrangments over the top of proggy blues/rock/metal.
I'm learning the piano in track 4, its so nice to play!

By far my Favorite band of all time. And BE is extraordinary. If you like harder stuff or more eccentric I should say Listen to Devin Townshend's Ziltoid the Omniscient, he is another one of my favorite artists.

I'm just gonna throw out Radiohead and get it outta the way.
Tripping to Hail to the Thief - nothing better.
