 Marijuana seized at storage [Val Verde County]

Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office deputies, armed with information and a search warrant, seized more than 500 pounds of marijuana from a south side storage shed Thursday afternoon.
When the deputies arrived at Zaragoza’s Storage, 1125 Dr. Fermin Calderon Blvd., they requested and received permission from the owner of the business to allow a U.S. Border Patrol drug detection dog to walk past a row of padlocked doors to storage compartments.
VVSO Deputy Jose Luis Blancarte noted in his probable cause affidavit in support of the search warrant, “All the storage units were checked by the canine. When the canine . . . got to the door of Unit 51, she alerted on this door, indicating that the smell of drugs was coming from inside this storage unit.”
Blancarte also noted in the probable cause affidavit that he had received information Sept. 30 from “a known source” that marijuana was being kept in a storage unit at Zaragoza’s.
“Deputy Blancarte has received information from this source in the past about illegal drugs that proved to be correct and reliable,” the affidavit reads.
The affidavit also reads that Blancarte asked for, and received, assistance from U.S. Border Patrol agents and a canine trained in drug detection.
When the drug dog alerted on storage unit 51, Blancarte obtained a search warrant for that unit.
The padlock on the unit’s door was cut and the door was opened, revealing 16 large, squarish blocks tightly wrapped in brown packing tape and spray-painted black and green, a measure officers at the scene Thursday said helps conceal the marijuana blocks while they are being carried through the brush at night.
Some of the blocks were stuffed into large sacks called costales.
The marijuana recovered from the storage unit weighed a total of 537.6 pounds, Blancarte said.
He noted that the estimated street value of the marijuana recovered is $430,800.
Blancarte said Saturday the investigation into the marijuana is ongoing, but no arrests have been made.

538 lbs /$430,000 = $800 per lb.
that's a pretty good deal for quality grass but I'd never payyou for all those stems and seeds!! !!

yeah for once they didnt boost up the price to ridiculous levels
i guess it just depends where u are though, california u will find a pound of good stuff for 800-1200$, whereas on the east coast you might pay 5000$ for the same pot

that sucks. my good friend's dad lives down in texas and he can go visit him down there, get a pound of kb for $400 and bring it back for me (if i wanted it, never have)
