hmmm seems like even with no rain the roots of the trees the muscaria is symbiotic (or parasitic?) with would bring up enough water for it.

Just a guess

Nice pics, makes me want to try them. Whenever I find them they are maggot infested shells of their former selves.

hmmm, they stop growing when it is dry, that is why i watered the patches around the birch trees.

I don't have much experience with the shroom, just what I've read. But looks like a healthy patch congrats.

it is better this year than in previous years...
they are popping around the bases of trees that i haven't seen them growing with before, so i guess they are spreading around the garden :yesnod:

i'm going to go and bag some birch saplings tomorrow and pot them up, then put them in the area where the amanitas grow...
hopefully if i drop some spores in the pots and cross my fingers i'll have a few inoculated trees...

that's a pretty cool idea - almost beats truffle inoculated chestnuts!

you should try smoking the skins, it's pretty nice with some bud. beats wasteing the beautiful mushrooms too.

:peace:

shame something has eaten big chinks out of the cluster in the first pics, those would have been a much better photos without the bites...
not sure what has been nibbling them, maybe deer...

Beautiful.

Amanitas kill more people than all other mushrooms put together, so an ID of some to be eaten must be correct. An ID based on a photo on the Internets is not reliable enough to potentially risk your life on. ToxicMan
