How many bypasses are we talking?  Any co morbidity factors (obesity, smoking, alcohol) involved?

He's looking at about 5-10 days in the hospital unless its a robotic surgery in which it may shave off a few days.

It's come a long way from what it used to be but there can still be complications.  It all relates back to how healthy you were prior to the surgery.

best of luck to you and bring support for your dad.

Don't worry - he'll pull through. I had bypass surgery last year and I'm fine. Although I'm probably younger than your dad, I had to have it due to narrow cardiac arteries and some fucked up genetics. I was out of the hospital in six days. Recovery is kinda slow, and I felt fucked up for about six months. But don't worry too much. They carry out over 500,000 bypass surgeries in a year in the US and the survival rate is about 95%, so chances are good he'll make it. And he'll feel a lot better too in a few months.

thats good to hear.  My dad is 52, he doesnt smoke cigarettes, he might have a glass of wine with dinner but thats it as far as alcohol goes, and i think just one artery is clogged.

He should pull through just fine. :sun: And a small dose of wine every day is a good for your heart, a lot of studies have shown. He should keep that up.

Good to hear, sounds like he has very good odds of coming out fine! Good luck to him.
