I hate fish or at least salmon.  My wife wants me to eat more healthy.  Can you list different fish to try that don't have such a fishy taste. <--- sounds stupid I know but I'm really curious.

Every time I have attempted to cook fish it turns out pretty bad.

What is, in your opinion, the best way to cook fish?

What is the most tastiest fish you have ever ate?

The best are Tuna, salmon and excuse me for my spelling i will just dictionary pronounce it ma-hee ma-hee (dolphin fish right?).

"Freedom means being in control (either as an individual or as a member of a SMALL group) of the life-and-death issues of one's existence; food, clothing, shelter and defense against whatever threats there may be in one's environment.  Freedom means having power; not the power to control other people but the power to control the circumstances of one's own life. One does not have freedom if anyone else (especially a large organization) has power over one, no matter how benevolently, tolerantly and permissively that power may be exercised. It is important not to confuse freedom with mere permissiveness."

Tuna, Cod, Snapper, Cat Fish, Mahi Mahi(Dolphin), and Halibut. Really nice Talapia won't have fishy taste but most places don't carry Talapia. I hate to tell you but Salmon is pretty non fishy tasting. If you can't palate that then you might be in trouble.

One thing that will help a lot is going with fresh fish. When buying whole fish look for red gills and clear eyes. If you are getting steaks or fillets it should have a very mild smell to it and shouldn't be overly slimey. Press on the scales and it should be firm and shouldn't hold the mark.

My favorite fish is fresh yellow fin tuna. I can and have eaten it raw with some soy sauce.

I also started a fish cooking thread. Gonna add a few a day till I run out of ideas. Check that out. If you have moderate cooking skills it should give you ideas.

Oh also I just looked it up. Fish with high Omega-12, mercury content, and lake fish will have more of a fishy smell.

I've been having a recent problem with fish allergy, which is strange, because i've been eating fish all my life.  What's even wierder, is that only certain species of fish seem to react with me.  When I do have a reaction, I get a dry, scratchy throat, "pins and needles" feeling in my tongue, and this horrible sickly feeling in my gut (Like nausea, but more so...).  I've had this reaction when eating Tilapia and Catfish, but not with Salmon or any shellfish.  My favorite fish is walleye, but i'm scared to eat it for fear i'll have a reaction to it.

Is there any reason why Tilapia or Catfish in particular would make me sick? Is this perhaps just a recently surfacing aversion to freshwater fish?  Or do Tilapia and catfish have a significantly different chemical makeup or something to other fish?

I used to love catfish so much.  :frown:

Is it true that Chilean Sea Bass is a threatened or endangered species?

If so, why does it continue to be served at every restaurant in my area?

Is this just hype?

I have no good answer. Catfish are bottom feeders and Talapia are vegetarians. Most salmon you get isn't lake salmon and it isn't a vegetarian.

Chilean sea bass is really Patagonian Toothfish. There is over fishing of it and if you are concerned about that kinda thing don't eat it. The big problem isn't in America its the illegal boats selling that shit to Japan and Chile.

I'm a big fan of very light tasting fish, for the most part all I eat is haddock. What are some similar fish? Also, I usually just coat the haddock w/ breadcrumbs + seasoning and fry it up to make sandwiches with but that gets boring. Do you have any good recipes for haddock or other light tasting fish?

when you say sushi grade tuna, what exactly does that mean.  want to cook it rare at home like they do in restaurants but dont know what to buy.  all i see are tuna steaks.  does it have to be a certain type of tuna?
