 People tripping who have never smoked weed before

I have a friend who is really interested in the psychedelic experience. He has been drunk many times but has never been high before. Does anyone here have any experience with people going straight from alcohol to tripping? How did it turn out? I ask because mostly people recommend to have been high on marijuana before trying a psychedelic.

i would totaly tell him to at least toke a personal joint before the trip makes it go down better.i dont see the problem though but i wouldnt do more than 1 hit.all my friends blaze so havent been there lol

why do you differentiate between being drunk and being high?
True different substances make you feel different, but they're all substances that make you feel -different-.
Also the idea that a substance like cannabis could be a 'gateway drug' is purely ludicrous, people are curious and try different things.
To answer your question, I don't see how smoking cannabis and taking psychedelics correlate other than that they're two substances that make you feel different.

very true beege i feel that people missname drugs they all make you feel differnt and once you try a new one the last drug will never be the same

I think that smoking cannabis is more similar to tripping than alcohol.
Having that experience under your belt helps you know how to deal with and manipulate altered states of consciousness.
It isn't necessary but I think it is a good idea.
At the very least it isn't a bad idea.

I was not trying to blame cannabis as a gateway drug lol it just seems that mostly people on here have recommended getting high on weed before tripping because weed has more of a psychedelic effect than getting drunk does. thanks for the replies all.

from my own personal experience, I smoked weed for about 3 years before trying shrooms. It would be interesting to hear an account from someone who has never tried cannabis though.

Why differentiate between any substances then...
I would say he should be high first. Honestly, that's awesome he wants to trip, and although nothing can TRULY prepare you for tripping...I do not think alcohol alone is a good stick to be measuring with. I'm sure he thinks it will be like something, but just tell him being high is the first thing he should experience. Being high and being drunk are polar opposites, imo.
In other words, tell him if he holds his horses, tries smoking, and likes it...or at least knows what being high is...then go from there. He doesn't even have to like smoking, but I think that experience would be highly beneficial to have before tripping.

I only smoked about 10 times before I first tried mushrooms and LSD. It really doesn't make that much of a difference I don't think. Personally I wouldn't have him smoke anything while tripping simply because it is nice to know how the mushrooms alone effect him for the first time. Maybe have him try a bowl of some mid a couple of nights before the trip if he wants to. If he doesn't want to though then by all means, let him head straight to mushrooms, it won't be that big of a deal.

from my POV I think he should go for it. Maybe offer him a bowl during the comedown and let him know it'll relax him of the stress on the mind and body. Maybe that way he can have a legit reason for smoking? IDK just my 2 cents on the shitsiation

It took me months to explore and understand the world of marijuana when I was first introduced to it. If he's dropping some L soon, I don't see how it would help very much.

I think having him smoke at any point on the trip, even the comedown, is a bad idea if he's never smoked before.
That said, I see no reason why he would need to smoke weed before trying mushrooms. I'm not sure I agree with the people who are saying that weed would "prepare" him in some way for the experience. Then again, I'd smoked a fair amount before I tried mushrooms, so take that with as many grains of salt as you wish.

i personally feel like being really fucking drunk is far closer to being seriously dosed out than smoking weed is...
my reason for thinking is, vision is blurred, bodily function becomes impaired, balance is impaired, etc...
just my .02

i disagree with that, i believe that being high, especially really fucking high is a lot closer to tripping than being really drunk. Weed after all is a psychedelic and in high doses theres always a glimpse of true psychedelia. Being really drunk is nothing like trippin to me

Weed is definitely further down the rabbit hole than alcohol is, but this is no reason to convince your friend to try smoking ganja before experiencing psychedelics. IMO, weed can provoke more negative reactions in people than shrooms can.
Have a couple beers with your friend before the trip to kill all come-up anxiety, and he'll be initiated into a magical shroom world where the colors start to flow down the walls. No need to throw other plants into the mix.

this works, i showed my girlfriend lsd for her first time because she wanted to, but she got a bit nervous before we dropped so i said we should drink a few beers to see if itd make her a bit more daring and less scared, needless to say beer did its thang and we dropped 10 minutes later

I personally think there are most similarities with weed to psychedelics, however I see what you are saying, however I think I would equate mushrooms more to drunkenness, LSD doesnt give me those effects near as much as mushrooms.
