Feel Alone Here

I feel as if I live in an area where very few people share my views, hobbies, interests, etc. No one here really likes to smoke or trip because they think it is "bad for you" No one seems to understand the benefits and truth behind things like acid, mushrooms, cannabis, etc. Most believe what TV, the government, and everyone else tells them and just drink alcohol and get more stupid. (I don't have a problem with alcohol, but you guys get what I'm saying). I have like 2 friends that share the same interests and beliefs as I do. If I would to tell my other "friends" what I believe in and what I do they would sadly think I was some kind of freak. My parents too, if they knew I actually did not believe in Christianity and knew what I did they would definitely send me home for college and do who knows what. Oh well maybe it is just me. There has to be some more people around here that share my common interests, etc., guess I am just not looking hard enough. Or maybe I will have to just wait until I move to Cali or Colorado after I graduate . Sorry for the rant as a first post but I had to get it out. By the way- this is an excellent forum and I enjoy reading what you guys have to say.

Have you considered that the people who do share your interests probably think the exact same thing about you?

Gather with those two friends, and attract two more! You might find it easier to meet like minds with a like-minded group. Just my 2cents.

That's shitty they are holding the purse strings and seem to think you must believe your their religion. That's horrible. And not something you should do to anyone you love.
As for your other interests. When it comes to certain things, psychedelic research, microbiology, and growing edible mushrooms... Not even my best friends are all that interested. But we share so many other things things that over time I've come to accept our different tastes as actually being a great thing.
After all they're still great people or I would have stopped being friends with them years ago. And we do have many things in common. But I'm absolutely obsessed with the above three subjects.
How old are you?

I would love it if i had 2 friends who find psychedelics as interesting as I do, I have 1 friend who does shit to get fucked up not so fun to hang around, and then I have another friend that says hell try mushrooms with me but he doesn't really find them fun to talk about or research.

19. I like my other friends because they are nice people and all, but if they knew of the things I did, thought, etc. they would probably stay clear of me. Same with my parents, I love them because they provide for me and all, are very nice people, but I do not want to know what they and the rest of my family would do if they really knew who I was, what I did, what I thought. Makes me feel isolated. It is a pretty shitty situation but I guess I'm not alone. Maybe it was a delusion to think most people on this forum had many other friends that share most of their interests. You guys are most likely in the same situation as me.

That's exactly my situation, man. My dad sort of figured out that I smoke weed, but if my parents knew I'd done LSD or mushrooms there would be a long and tearful guilt trip delivered by my mother. When I am no longer financially dependent on my parents and am living on my own, I'll be free to do whatever I want.
Only two or three people in my circle of friends are really interested in much beyond smoking the occasional joint. And not knowing a lot of people with similar "interests" makes it hard to find merchandise.
Sometimes I feel that a lot of that isolation is in my head, though. You're at college, right? There's tons of people around. Make yourself available and be sociable. Last year I didn't really get out. I spent most of my time smoking weed and watching movies in my room, and I regret that.

i completely sympathize with you stickygreen - i was feeling incredibly alienated and disconnected from other people not too long ago - felt no one shared my interests or had any similar passions. i haven't lost hope though - i have seen i have the capability to change and inspire other people and friends.
i think it was Gandhi who said "be the change you want to see in the world" - sure enough, I can tell I'm making a difference. even if people don't want to admit it, I have the power to change them and vice versa

IMHO - most of the shroomery is comprised of the "black sheep" of society. you're not alone, just part of a rare and different beast that most people fear - the independent minded youth.

I can understand where you are coming from dude. What sort of school do you go to? Perhaps you could transfer to a school that better suites you? I dunno... good luck. Get more posts and check out the gathering forum and maybe you can chill with some cool shroomerites. Either way dont get too down, at least you have a family you feel is loving.

Yeah the only other person I know who is into the same stuff is the guy who introduced me to this site If I didn't work with this guy I doubt I would have mushrooms growing in my closet right now. Try to be that person, you'd be surprised the type of people you can bring to the "light" side.

I understand where you're coming from; I just spend three years in a place that frowns upon non-conformity (law school). I had an extremely hard time finding anyone that even smoked weed, let alone psychedelics. Try going to concerts or festivals and make some friends that way. Are there any near where you live? Also, just curious as to what state you live in.

I dont know to many people in my area who share the same views, beliefs as me.
I like having a few good friends any ways, as apposed to a bunch of loose friends.

It was the same exact way when we lived in northern NH... All people do up there was drink! I mean Im all for drinking but it was rediculous how much these people drink and how many local police logs are made up of 75% drunk and disorderly and underage drinking issues!

Can you give some examples of hippy colleges? I am in serious need of a change of scenery.

I live in a small town in Indiana. How do you think i feel? I know one guy who sells weed, and if he goes away, im screwed unless i start growing it. No one in this town is anything like myself or the fine people in the Shroomery.
