Question for Roger Rabbit

I was going to PM you these Qs, but then I saw your PM note so this is it copy/pasted...
Subject: Hi RR, quick question
you seem to be the authority on FCs/monotubs and such.
For my 1st attempt, ill be using B+ syringes w/rye grain and cased with probably a 1/4 inch 60/40 verm/coir casing layer.
Ive been looking into monotubs (simplcity appeals to me) and had two questions:
1. would a shotgun tek w/polyfill or the traditional larger holes w/polyfill be better for a monotub? Looking for optimal (maximum) FAE while maintaining desired RH levels for B+ strain
2. Just to clarify, aluminum foil gets placed in bottom of clean monotub and the substrate is applied directly ontop of tin foil, with the casing layer added ontop of this, correct?
Thanks RR, your knowledge & enthusiasm to help others inspires me to contribute to the community too (hopefully once i get some experience under my belt lol)

When posting threads, thread titles are the equivalent of topic sentences. You want to express in a short and coherent way the content of your thread. For example, in this thread you might have had the title as "Monotubs - is shotgun or multiple polyfill holing better?"
Secondly, the message boards are a resource. People are here to help and between us there is a vast amount of knowledge. RR is a reknowned and amazing resource, but he is also a human being and you are doing a disservice to both him and the rest of the community by demanding his response alone.

You're disservicing you and I by offering no advice and only a condescending lecture, which I'll disregard anyway.
The questions were AIMed at RR because I believe he'd be of utmost credability in terms of knowledge regarding THESE particular questions, based on some of his posts. If this board is a resource, I'd call that being resourceful on my behalf *rolls eyes*
And just because the post was directed at RR doesn't mean other input isn't appreciated. Your post, however, was not appreciated.
if RR feels my post is "too demanding", HE can address that issue with me

I'll take your non-consideration into consideration.
In the meantime, why not enjoy the fruits of your attitude? The multitude of posts above mine should be more than enough to answer your question.

You want eight holes, lightly stuffed with polyfil. 4 holes on each side and at least 1 inch in diameter. You can use aluminum foil to line the bottom of the substrate, but I have found large black bags(contractor type) to work much better.
I'm not RR, but I have a little experience with mono/double tubs.

Fooman,
I put ten holes in my monotub for increased FAE. I have my four set up on the long sides of the tub, but then at the substrate level on the ends of the tub I drilled two more.
Will ten holes be too much to keep up RH? Using WBS spawned to hpoo/straw

i would stick to the number of holes and size of holes in the basic mono tub teks. as you guess, you are trying to keep rh up while creating fae. its a ballance, creating extra holes you can dry things out. possibly preventing fruiting or reducing the number of flushes.

Does anyone else echo the above sentiment? ^
Should I buy new tubs?

10 holes wouldn't be too much. I've seen lots of different configurations. Some people put extra holes at either end of the tubs, some add holes in the lids. The beauty of it is that you can drill more holes if you find you aren't getting enough FAE or tape over some of your holes if your substrate is drying out too quickly. Really it's just a matter of tweaking it until you find what works for you. Once you have it the way you like it the setup will be virtually maintenance free.
I do recommend the holes be at least 1 inch in diameter though, otherwise they don't allow much airflow.

I usually ignore or lock threads that call me out by name. Many growers here can answer questions as well or better than I can.. In addition, I'm no expert on monotubs. That tek was developed by our member ohmatic. RR
