 Mushroom newbies - cultivating mushrooms

Ok im new at all this, read some posts did a little research and it sounds fascinating to clone mushrooms. I picked up some agar dishes and stuff at a local science shop and started experimenting but seems im only growing mold lol
Anyone care to toss some advice on the easiest shroom to clone and maybe help with some newb tutorials?
Pretty sure the included image is just mold, it was from morels, tried getting mycelium growth from tissue samples. (hope I did the image thing right)

This is my very limited experience here, but I've had some initial success with cloning tissue. Start with species that are agressive growers like oyster mushrooms. Also, anything that has a long shelf life would be good. There should be a post up here with pics of my bunapi-shimeji spawn, and those can last a month in the fridge! That was taken from a mushroom that made its way to an asian market in Texas from Japan.
As far as the mold goes, what are you doing to prevent contamination? If you put tissue on agar in the open air, you're going to get contamination! Try making a glove box if you don't have one. There's also the option of using hydrogen peroxide in your agar, which is what I'm doing now.
I also can't recommend RR's videos enough. I wouldn't have gotten nearly as far as I have without them.

Thanks guys for the info.
As for the sterilization part, I tried to do it as sterile as possible but I guess ill have to make me a glove box so I don't contaminate it again. I live near sporeworks in Knox maybe itll just be easier to drop by there this week lol
BTW the pic really does not show it but I have some yellow fuzzy like stuff and some orange (ish) type growth that looks somewhat fuzzy. The yellow and orange look to be climbing the walls of the dish. Is mold that color or have I created the worlds next bio weapon? lol

Looks like morel sclerotia but if you inoculated and have been having the container open then the morel is contaminated with other stuff as well.
The picture is too fuzzy anyway to tell.

That looks like the world's greatest pint-sized collection of mold and bacteria I've seen in a while. Glove boxes and/or a flowhood are necessary in this hobby if you're going to take it seriously. Sure, you can get by without, but be prepared for MANY contaminations to get a few successes.
As mentioned above, start with a much more aggressive species. Oysters (of pretty much any kind) will work great. Plus, after a success or two, you're confidence will build and give you the enthusiasm needed to pursue other experiments.

Looks familiar; the orange tufts and white tufts. Could that be an attempted black morel culture?

Hello,
unfortunately the initial photo is totally out of focus. If the culture looks similar to this one
everything is alright.
I'd also recommend some sort of oysters to start with. Do a lot of experiments to learn how to prevent contams. A glovebox should help, though if you found out how to work cleanly, you can do without. I neither use a glovebox nor a flowhood and less than 5% of my grain jars contaminate, but it took me about a year to get that far.

I was replying to Outdoorsman. I'm not saying I'm right about it, just that it appears that way to me. Especially with poor photo quality, it's hard to say.

I'm suspicious as to how well this would work in a layer situation.
Maybe some pine oil?
But on another note how well would vegetable oil work in a grain substrate to prevent yeast and bacteria from causing fermentation?

You have probably seen 'Oil additive to substrates' by Culland

I'm gonna try soon to add small amounts of oil to substrates for various species. If mushrooms are feeding on microbes, they should be adapted to lipids, as they are digesting the cell walls.
Never tried it by now as I was afraid the oil would seal the kernels.
About the influence on fermentation... I think oil is hard to digest for those microbes. People cook veggies and cover them with oil for storage.
