Well in my opinion it is the beginning of a fundamental shift in the nature of the human universe. There is no such thing as an end, it is merely a new beginning. Humanity as we know it is going to change, forever, reaching the next plateau of our evolution. That is why the Mayan calander and I ching give special notice to this date. It is simply the next stage in the life cycle of this human race, with the existence we've left behind gone forever.
Whether it is a good thing or a bad thing I suppose, as with most things, just depends on your point of view. It might be likened to a butterfly emerging from the cocoon or an adolescent reaching maturity. I for one would not mourn the death of the world I can see currently and would welcome a paradigm shift.

Space time is very well collasping into a new aeon of human evolution (or something like that)
My first ever trip took me to this supposed end of time, and 3 years later I founds it was exactly as explained my Mkenna and the 2012 postulations.
There is a lot more going on (non-simultaneously apprehended) then our current language could come close to supporting. Reality is, in fact (imo) bursting at the seems.

Just for the hell of it, I just counted all of my savings, spare change, and cash and disregarding my debt, if you multiply that amount by two and a half, I have exactly 2012 dollars. This can't be a coincidence. If you factor in my debt though, we're talking dinosaur times. Fuck it, I'm going to have another beer, this 2012 theory seems pretty cool in a way, makes me want to get some credit cards...
edit: Bad news: my wife just went to the store to get me more beer, so according to my calculations, the world will end in 2006.

Agreed, I was just pointing out that while asteroids are relatively easy to track, comets are much harder and they stand a much better chance of sneaking up on us than asteroids.
If the Mayans were so damn smart and could predict the future, then why couldn't they see there own demise coming?
