 Growing peyote

So Ive been looking into growing peyote for the past while now, but I still have some questions I cannot find answers to. I have read many guides, and threads but Im looking for more specific advice on what I want to do. Basically I want to have 1-4 buttons growing over the next 5-10 years. I have no desire to consume them now, and am only growing them for fun.
My concern is that Id start to grow them this October, where tempertures in my house are generally 16-23 degrees. Most guides Ive read recommend no less than 21 degrees, when growing from seeds, so should I run a heater 24/7 near them if I want them to grow, or will they not be that picky.
Also, they would just be growing in my room which has nice indirect sunlight, but Im not sure if them just being in my room, away from the cold windows would be adequate light. Would it be ok to have a combination of natural and incandescent light for normal hours during the day.
Basically I dont want them to grow really fast. I just want to be able to perform minimal maintenance and just let them grow, aside from the occasional watering.
Any advice from people who have done something similar?
[EDIT] Should have also mentioned I live in Canada.

Contrary to popular belief, some people do basically live in igloos. So I'm thinking a heater would be essential?

Supplemental lighting.
Not incandescent wrong spectrum and may get too hot. A compact fluorescent will meet more of the light requirements and provide some heat. If the temp is still too low you can box it in with glass or plastic walls. Slow the air exchange but don't stop it.

You don't have to worry about that at all.
Unless you graft it, Peyote is very slow growing. I've seen 3-4 year old seed grown buttons as small 1/2 inch.

I think the light and water are more important than the heat.
They basically need tons of sunlight. But if they start to turn purplish, then they are getting too much sunlight. They grow underneath bushes in mexico, so they are protected from burning...and in the desert temperatures can drop down to the 40's no problem...
As far as water is concerned, always let the soil COMPLETELY dry out between waterings, which means water them every two or three weeks.
Peyote loves:
Light
Dry soil
Peyote hates:
Freezing temperatures
Overwatering
They are very resiliant and need almost no care. Throw in some good cactus fertilizer at 1/2 dose every three months and you are set.

Thanks, the reason I stated "Basically I don't want them to grow really fast." was because a lot of the guides I read suggested extravagant lighting set ups for mass relatively rapid growing. I didn't know if this was essential or only needed to cause it to grow quickly.

This is what I did and will take care of your concerns:
Buy a small sheet of glass from a hardware store. On the underside of the glass, apply one of those terrarium low voltage heaters that plug in that people use for reptile pets(they are at maybe 85 degrees F). Place your shallow tupperware/pot for your peyotes on top of the glass.
I placed the glass on top of a floor tile near the window to keep everything stable. That's a cheap solution for you that will keep the roots warm.

Ok, so if I use the heater method, could I just leave it by my cold window to get sunlight? Or would I still need the fluorescent light?

if it gets enough light from the window, you're all set; the sun gives the light, the reptile pad gives the heat. If you're not getting enough light from the the wndow, that's a different story . . .

This is really not a complicated issue at all. Just put them on a shelf where they will get nice southern light. Keep your house at room temp. Thats it. BTW, don't plan on getting 4 lol. You'll have tons before its over. Ask uare, sturmer, and the rest of us lophophiles  .

As long as it doesn't get below 10 too often i'd say you're alright, if you look at http://lophophora.blogspot.com you'll see a Coldhouse project - lots of lophs being kept in an unheated greenhouse in denmark all year round, and they grow fine.

seedlings will need more caring though... they need to be watered more frequently than mature ones and also need less light.

a heating pad would work fine right? you know the kind for people. O and I can grow peyote and trich seedlings side by side with the same care right? And what temp in fahrenheit do I want the heating pad to be?

I'm with Haymaker...no heating pad necessary at all unless it gets down to freezing temperatures in your house...
Heating pads will waste electricity.
Just give it some decent sunlight and water once a month during the winter. Every two weeks in the summer. Make sure those roots are dry before you water though.

heating pad- you can, but its not necessary. I use the top of my fridge until the cacti and other plants start to show. Oh you said the kind for ppl. DO NOT use it. Those and electric blankets are huge fire hazards. Do a search at this site, and you will come to agree. I guess that nulls out the temp question. You can always buy a cheep one meant for plants. Waste of money IMO.
LW and tricho seedlings side-by-side: No. L williamsii are too sensitive to light to be put in the same container with trichos. You can put them in separate containers and just keep a watchful eye.

well i have sampled small pieces of surplus material from grafting but nothing more... i even tried a small piece of "liz" once 
i just dont think that i could ever bring myself to eat any of my lophs... i have too much respect for them and we all know that there are much more sustainable sources of mescaline if we want to get fucked up
