meadowfoam can be made into alcohol!?!?! crazy!
never thought of making a mead of that

are you located in canada and it grows wild near you or something?

dont let the stuff in the mesh bag sit longer than 2 weeks, thats about the longest u wanna let any fruit go that would be soaking in your brew.

well meadowfoam mead and 17lbs of honey doesnt indicate meadowfoam honey but ok enough bickering, infact it makes them sound separate

i hope your brew turns out really good, let us know how it goes

I think I would have added the plums only after fermentation had slowed dramatically as plums normally have a delicate flavor and you risk losing much of the fruit flavor and aroma. Of course you could always add more later if this proves to be the case.

Two weeks on the fruit seems about right.

Yeah, 16 pounds is a lot. Ken Schramm in 'The Compleat MeadMaker' recommends 10 lbs. or more of plums in the secondary for a strong fruit character. So 16 lbs. at this point should be spiffy. Never made a plum mead before. Sounds good.

Right now I have a batch of orange mead and elderberry/blueberry mead going. The elderblueberry is almost done fermenting so soon I will rack it onto oak cubes for 2-3 months of aging followed by a few more months of additional aging before the first taste test.
