The HPPD of seeing flying black bugs seems commonly linked to deliriant abuse... I didn't know that extreme mushroom use could trigger this same effect.

I say it is both. I dont do drugs past occasional marijuana and I too am in great physical health(best ever, i dont even get affected by the common cold anymore) and I can see these things. The other day I was sitting and looking at my friend and I saw this blue hue beggining to settle over his head. It got lost pretty quickly but it wasnt the first time thats for sure. Actually one time, I saw a green glow around this guys head and a blue hue on his shoulders while he did a presentation. It would flare up whenever anyone questioned his work. That day I intentionally tried to find an aura and it worked, it seems to be more pronounced in some people and others do not like it when you look it at, I usually take this as a sign of fear. Its fine. Nothing unusual its just one of the many ways to experience life. It makes sure people dont get bored and mystery stays alive! The universe, is a world that has worlds within it.

It sounds pretty intricate to be HPPD...and intricate enough to be an aura
I'm not sure if I've seen auras before but when I do yoga I see a brilliant blue haze around my extremities...oh wait actually I saw an pretty unmistakable aura once. I was chatting with my biochem prof during my 8AM lab and when I turned to look at him I saw a thick band of gold around his gold...brilliant, rich gold, just like the halo of a saint. It didn't surprise me too much since he was Indian and vegetarian (probably hindu, then) and one of the best people I've met in my life...

Yeah,
I used to see that before I joined the military. It is a matter of not looking directly at it that you see it. It appears to breathe. When you try to look directly at it you can't see it. Let your eyes go out of focus and it appears. Have fun!

Veritas and Jack Albertson (HPPD = Hallucinogen Persistent Perceptual Disorder) both suggested good psychophysical, foundational places to start. Migraine and epilepsy among other illness, as Veritas pointed out, can be a source of auras. Please have your eyes checked for excessive intra-ocular pressure (as in glaucoma) before you assume some occult significance! Don't mess around with your sight.

Hey Markos! I was checked for everything the last time I went; glaucoma runs in my family, so I was tested for that too, and no problems. My eyes have gotten better since the last visit prior.
Next time I'm up for a check, I will have them run another test though.

I'm glad. My Lady was showing some prodromal signs of glaucoma, and needs to stay on top of monitoring. Any other neurological symptoms like headaches, confusion, etc.? I don't want to play neurophysiologist, but a lesion on the occipital lobe of the brain can cause visual aberrations. Are you gonna pursue an MRI or CAT scan?

I've noticed the same effect, to some extent.
You said you wear contacts right? Do you see something similar without the contacts in, (as in when wearing glasses), that may have something to do with it.
But yeah, doesn't sound like a bad thing. I've come to enjoy my 'HPPD', but I don't think of it as a disorder. Just that many people can see similar things, but until an experience that highlights such vision, most choose to ignore it.

Hey Markos,
No, I won't be pursuing a scan for my head. I don't have insurance and even getting my eyes checked put me in financial struggle for a month or two. I'm just now pulling out of that hole, and it's about time for me to go back in, heh.
I truly do feel wonderful, inside and out. I have never felt so clear-headed and alive with energy! The visual distortions I can live with.

When you're glad to be alive, those holes aren't so bad anyway.
Edit: I don't want to thread-jack, but this doesn't seem to warrant it's own thread. Ever since I started smoking weed I can see this "static" on uniform surfaces like walls, floors, the sky, etc. I've heard the word static used in talks about HPPD before, but I'm not sure if I'm experiencing the same thing. It doesn't interfere with my life in any way, but I'm just curious what it is. Does this have anything to do with HPPD?

Yep--static certainly qualifies as HPPD. Not a big deal at all.

I couldn't say for sure. I was just concerned that aberrant visual effects might be symptomatic of something that needs immediate attention.
