Coleus Blumei Extract

Hello, here we go
This is the fresh plant material. I decided to include leaves and stems for this extract.
I found it best to break the stems at the nodes and slice them down the center.
wet plant material weighed in at 138.5g
The drying process took an excruciating 3 days of fan action. once the weight was around 25g i tossed it in the blender and put it back under the fan where it lost an additional 6g of water within a few hours. at this point i put the material into the desiccant chamber which sucked another 4g out to bring the fully dry weight to 15.3g, about 11% of the wet weight. I set aside 1 gram of material for fortification. i made sure to sift out any large chunks of stem material.
I did three washes. wash 1. 200ml of acetone, soaked for 5 minutes wash 2. 150ml of acetone, soaked and constantly shaken for 10 minutes wash 3. 50ml of acetone quickly swished and poured out to rinse the leaf
As the second wash was soaking i let the first wash evap a bit under the fan. all 3 washes were then combined and left to concentrate a bit before adding the 1g of leaf. A great deal of condensation developed on the outside of the dish.
once satisfied with the volume of the liquid i added the 1g of remaining leaf. i stirred this vigorously as it evaporated. the smell of acetone left the dish after about a half hour of evap but there was still liquid in the dish. i suspect some condensation formed inside the dish and seeped into the product.
I left the dish under the fan for about 5 more hours until it was completely dry. the resulting extract was not sticky at all, the residue left in the dish was thin and not sticky either. After scraping the dish i was left with 1.3 grams of material. the additional weight is likely a result of debris that fell through the strainer.
so 15g->1.3g= an approximate 12x extract. I havent tried it yet. I'll try it out in a couple days.
Thanks for looking, expect an experience report in the next few days.

Has Coleus extract been proven active? Coleus was one of the first visonary ethnos I ever heard of. In old research it is often mentioned together with Salvia because it was thought to contain either the same or a very similar active chemical.
Looking on-line for modern research or personal expierience reports, I find more reports against it then for it. I have found a few reports claiming Wallmart supplied Coleus can be very active, while many plants specificly sold as Blumei were not. A few reports saying the exacte opposite. Most reports I found claim VERY LITTLE to NO EFFECTS at all.
PLEASE!!! Let us know your results.

I'm going to guess that we haven't heard back yet because it went one of two ways...it either worked too well, or it wasn't worth a shit.
We may never know.

!!! sorry!
three real reason you havent heard back. 1- i wanted to try it several times before posting, 2- i just changed residence and am super busy working on the place, and 3- i forgot.
buuut i did try it once. I packed up a bowl of the extract and smoked it fairly quickly. within thirty or so seconds i felt that very odd lifting/awakening/opening that i get when stick my brain into the psychedelic realm. Its so weird like my body/brain rise into a slightly higher state of feeling/awareness. I had some music going and the lights were low so i tried to observe my open eyed visuals. There was little to none besides a slight haze and maybe a little hue of purple throughout. So i balanced my head and closed my eyes. Before i even realized what had happened I was stuck in a trancelike state of mild cevs. Not flying colors or complex geometries or anything that intense. It was more like i was watching my thoughts. My mind was building pictures with the music. I would see an object and it would morph into another and another constantly and seamlessly. I sat watching this for maybe 5 minutes before i realized that i had lost awareness of the room i was in. I then opened my eyes and reflected on the mild experience. Not exactly mind blowing but it was definitely something.
next time i'll maybe roll a whole joints worth. I'll try combining with other herbs aswell.

Hey there, Im interested in making something like this with this specific type of plant, can you tell me where you obtained the plants? If you grew them, where did you purchase the seeds? Your reply is awaited eagerly.

These were actually just growing in the property i was renting. I have grown them from seed as well though. Any garden center(home depot, lowes, walmart, target) sells "mixed colors" coleus seeds and even trays of plants.
Thanks for reminding me, i'm going to go dig up a few of the plants i used before i move out.

I remember hearing that the redder varieties of Coleus were more active (whole plant red, no green), can't say anyone has proven/disproven it yet though.

Nice, I just dug up some info on Coleus, though it seems to get a lot of mixed reviews. Thanks for the writeup on the process you used!

*Whistls* The first time i succesfuly tried coleus, i ate a whole bunch. I started feeling pretty calm like on a low does of mushrooms, but i was laghing like crazy. The most noticable effect was when i felt like i became 4-3ft relative to everything around me, and it felt like all of the ceillings i walked under were right on top of my head.
I would love to make something like a 30x with coleus one day.

hey thanks for the post centerthedream! It's great to hear other peoples experiences.
while i'm posting on this, does anyone have any hunches what other chemicals would be good for extracting coleus? There isnt much info so i'm guessing i'll need to just try out the different methods. I wonder what an a/b extract would yield.

The main three "kitchen chemistry" extractions are basically a polar solvent extraction (water, methanol, ethanol all would probably work), an acid base extraction like you mentioned, or a non-polar solvent extraction using something like hexane or heptane, or some other oil might work too. I'm not sure of the compounds in Coleus so I can't comment which would be appropriate.
