 First Absinthe Experience

Last night some Absinthe came my way so I figured I would try it out. I took 3 shots of it without chaser, it was actually very good tasting alcohol. After about 10 minutes I felt something that was defintely not the normal alcohol buzz. Mild Euphoria set in and everything seemed to be very funny. No hallicunations though. after about 20 minutes the feelings started to subside. It was very strange indeed, after I had drank a little all I wanted was more and more. I believe the absinthe was average the usual 30mg thujone content as described on the label. My final word on it is that it is far to expensive to actually purchase and by the time you get enough to feel the effects of it you'll end up being dog drunk because of the high alcohol content. (most absinthe is above 45% alochol some even reaching 80%).
I would try it again only for free though....

I hear you have to prepare the absinthe, like with a flaming sugar cube or some such thing. I believe this activates it or whatever. Sounds awesome, I hear it is little different from being drunk, but I would like to try it nonetheless.
Also, nice sig, I really like the: "There is acid in the beer in the red cups."

Yeah the first shot we took I heated it with some of that sugar candy thats crystalized the next two i just took two straight up.. little or no effect

I don't know about the heat thing (flaming shots at bars in Europe certainly draw in tourists, however), but I've heard the same about simply adding sugar to it.
I drank my absinthe with orange soda, which had the requisite sugar, and hell, it made it quite tasty to boot.
I agree Linuxman, it is actually a good tasting liquor straight. The particular brand I drank was 80% alc, 30mg/ml thujone. You described it well. A general, mild sense of euphoria, a different sort of buzz. I also seemed to become more sensitive to light. The first time I turned the lights out and vegged in front of a tv, the second time, I stayed out on the deck at night, chatting.
Either way, quite the interesting drink. Expensive, sure, but for those special occasions? 
(*cough* green vomit "interesting" as well)

when i drank my first drank of that most excellent alcohol
i had 2 shots poured in a glass with one shot of water and couple spoon fulls of sugar and an ice cube
needless to say that one drink put me on my ass
i never felt such a strong alcohol buzz
it would be nice to come across some again
for now i'll smoke some pot and remember my first absinthe drink

I thought i should add that the traditional way to drink absinthe is to pour 1 ounce of absinthe in to a glass and place a sugar cube on an absinthe spoon, which is a spoon made specifically or this purpose, and drip about 3 ounces of pure ice water over the cube so it melts it into the absinthe, once you have a 1/4 absinthe to sugar water mixture you are ready to drink it. This is the official and traditional method used through out the history of absinthe.
The flaming sugar cube is a method which is frowned upon by certain absinthe connoisseurs.
Another method is to place 1 ounce of absinthe in a small glass and place that glass inside a larger glass and drip the pure ice water into the smaller glass making it over flow into the larger glass, once 3 - 4 ounces of water has been added and the absinthe in the small glass has been replaced with water remove the small glass and drink

The first time I drank absinthe I was 15. I was staying in a hostel in the Rockies and met up with some dutch folks. We smoked a ton of weed with them and they whipped out a bottle of genuine absinthe. I drank 5 ounces, poured over sugar cubes in a fairly short time.
I had a very pleasant out of body experience. I floated up out of my body and I was exploring the hostel, flying around it weightless. My body was safe, surrounded by friends sitting on a couch. Eventually I felt like I got "pulled" back into my body.
It was a very strange experience. But a very rewarding one.

80% absinthe with anise is lovely
straight can be hard on your stomach
good stuff doesn't need sugar
even at 35mg of thujone the thujone won't do so much
better to experiment with A. absinthium in that case
originally the sugar was there to cover up the taste of poorly distilled absinthe
today there are thousands of varieties so you might need that sugar cube,
it's mostly show though
