And if anyone's interested here's the story of my mushroom experience:
A little over a year ago right before I went to college as a freshman I had a very spiritual experience on mushrooms. I drank a lot during high school and figured if that were a sin then smoking weed must be worse...and mushrooms must be even worse. However I wasn't thinking of the simple fact that alcohol is intoxicating while psychedelics are considered enlightening. Anyways I had the time of my life that night- sitting at my house with my two best friends before going away to college. And I looked up to the stars and felt "its ok", like God wasn't judging me or angry with me- maybe He even wanted me to go through the experience. We say that night we went to "Paradise". And people say that you don't get that every time on mushrooms, the conditions have to be right and whatnot. I didn't have any great revelations, I just recognized that somehow someway this had something to do with God and my search for the Truth. A lot has happened in the following year-I haven't done any since, I stopped smoking weed a lot and try not to drink as much- not to mention one of those friends became a psychedelic burnout (like you said potential for abuse) but nevertheless that night changed my life.

I'll be the first to say a lot of Christians are idiots too- there are so many power hungry people that claim to be followers of Christ, but are really just using Him for their own gain and tarnishing the Church. And thinking about it the only thing condemned in the Bible is drunkenness. Even Jesus drank- although never got drunk. And because getting too drunk does harm your body I can see why God wouldn't want us doing it. But good point, because psychedelics don't harm your body there is absolutely no biblical basis to condemn them.

If your spirit is really truth seeking, contrast your beliefs with a healthy dose of "existentialism" and what not. The world of philosophy and psychology is way more intrinsically constructive than psychedelics. However each has their place IMO

Godspeed. No pun intended.

Thank you. And yes I try to study a lot of philosophy and psychology and the sort. But those things are widely accepted while psychedelics are not. I think psychedelics can help people find inner peace that academics cannot. Not saying it's good to not study and trip all the time- but there's certain aspects of reality that only psychedelics (along with deep prayer and meditation) can reveal.

I found the GREATEST blog post the other day... the title: "Moses shrooms, shits out Ten Commandments". It was based around an article a professor in Israel wrote about how research has idicated that the Israelites were tripping when the whole ordeal happened in the desert.

I believe its based on the whole "mana from heaven" thing being mushrooms.
Cause the bible mentions that they popped up overnight and gave nourishment and visions, it seems plausible initially.
I haven't looked into it too much though.
Given that modern christianity ignores a lot of moses' laws, as did jesus himself "he who has not sinned cast the first stone" passage et cet, then it doesn't seem at all blasphemous.

Quoting the original article : "The acacia tree also has psychedelic properties, Shanon says, which the Israelites could have used. The acacia is mentioned frequently in the Bible, and was the type of wood of which the Ark of the Covenant was made." Damn that's pretty cool. I hope Jews and Christians don't disregard this theory thinking its saying Moses made up everything because he was on drugs and just imagined God talking to him. Because in reality, psychedelics would enable someone to perceive God, show you things beyond your normal perception. I hope people will take that into consideration. But because of our society's problem with psychedelics people will assume the professor is saying Moses just imagined God being there and sadly not give the professor any creditability.

And Christianity doesn't necessarily ignore the laws of Moses. Just that mankind screwed up so bad, breaking all of Moses' laws, that God needed to find a way to save us because we couldn't handle it on our own. Therefore God took human form and died in our place- so now He can forgive anyone for anything if we ask for it. The laws of Moses still apply, but because of Christ it doesn't mean we're damned if we break one.

Not only do I believe psychedelics to have been a part of religion, I feel psychedelics created/structured religion itself; There's quite a few historical moments that featured people hallucinating (whether it be psychedelics or schizophrenia or whatever) about God.
Welcome to the Board Truthseeker. Well wishes to ya.

If you guys are interested in these theories (Moses eating cubes, religious iconography displaying psychedelics) check out a book called Astrotheology and Shamanism by Jan Irvin and Andrew Rutajit.
Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Astrotheology-Shamanism-Unveiling-Christianity-Religions/dp/1585091073/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1220578256&sr=8-1
They have a lot of theories about this type of thing and are publishing regularly these days. Their site: www.gnosticmedia.com. I never thought Allegro's theory had much weight until I read this book and lurked their forum for a while. Jan brings a lot of evidence to the table and so far, although people have tried, no one has been able to convincingly debunk him to my satisfaction and I'm starting to believe.
And yeah to OP, as far as using mushrooms for mystical experience.. You mentioned that you had heard that you don't have those experiences every time. In my experience, if I use them infrequently I'm usually quite awed. A few times per year at most these days.
When I was younger I would trip with great frequency and although I did enjoy it, I find it to be much more useful to trip and then give it some time off to incorporate the experience into my life. That's just me, though.
