2 Many pins
    #8706107 - 07/31/08 04:50 AM (4 months, 3 days ago)

I already posted something about this in reg cult forum, so i know, this is kind of a double post. I figured that you guys in the advanced forum might be able to shed more light on the subject. I DONT have a camera, so no... no pics, but in my opinion none are needed. I know someone besides me has had this problem, im not special lol. I fruited 11, 6 quart bulk "cakes" in a 4 tier green house. Well, it went 2 good i'd say. There are literaly, and you just have to take my word on this, in the high hundreds if not over 1000 pins on each "cake". The biggest ones are 2 1/2 inches, if that... VERY thin, and the caps are already opening. I searched and searched on here and the best advice i found were to pick most of the pins off. I am devastated. I've hoped and prayed for an amazing pin set and now i got more than i bargained for. Why is this happening? How can i fix this? Possibly most important... How can i prevent this in the future? Im not new to growing, i know the air exchange and humidity were optimal, if not 2 optimal, if thats even possible. The strain is treasure coast, one that i've worked with many many times before. Please shed some light for me... Thanks sooooo much.

Dude just harvest the ones that are open and let the others grow. I wouldn't try to prevent it you may just screw your sub up and then not have any growing. PM me if you have any thing else and I will see if I can answer the questions.

What you want to do is get some kind of opaque
wrapping material and cover the surface of your
'cakes' with it in the areas that you don't want
anything to grow.  I would suggest first picking
off any primordia below where it will be covered.

Hey Floyd,

Good job guy it was beautiful work ... just a suggestion though.

I believe you said that you spawned 2 quarts of spawn to coir ... in each cake? Correct?? If so that could have been your problem, not enough nutrients. Im betting if you had some poo or castings mixed in with the substrated you wouldnt have ended up with so many very small mushies... although you certainly got a BUTLOAD of them, they might have been bigger with a better nutrient system.

Just a suggestion.
