Bodybuilding supplements
    #8875073 - 09/04/08 12:30 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

I meant more workout supplements, but I guess they're technically called bodybuilding supplements.
Just curious to what a lot of you take.

I'm just taking nitric oxide at the moment.  I mainly notice that I need to rest less so I can get out of the gym faster.  Minimal strength increase.

I used to drink Muscle Milk before/after I worked out.  It helped me get my Protein, since I had a college diet - but now I just eat right and don't spend money on protein powder stuff.

mmmmmmm lean meats.

The only supplements I recommend using are EFA (Essential Fatty Acids like Omega-3 and Omega-6), Creatine, a good multi-vitamin, protein, and dextrose. I have also used L-Glutamine too with great success.

The protein and dextrose are really for pre and post workout, with protein being used more commonly to supplement your protein intake. Muscle Milk is a great product because it contains whey and casein proteins.

Creatine is hard on your liver though, so keep that in mind.

to date, with the studies done on creatine so far, the only people that have to worry about taking creatine are people with pre-existing kidney or liver problems.

Bingo!!

One thing that adds to the misconception is that when heavy lifters go in for blood work, it's usually the day after a heavy workout. Liver values will be elevated and everyone gets alarmed that their liver is going to explode because they took some poisonous creatine. Not the case...

Aside from good eating like ohm recommended, maybe some creatine, protein, dha/epa (fish oils, you probably only need omega 3's if you're eating red meat though)... and yup. Not too much else.

I buy lots of almond butter and macadamia nut butter and add it to my shakes, usually before bed. A few scoops of protein, some nut butter, ice cubes and a couple of eggs... mmm. Tastes delicious. I add the eggs for the extra protein and to make it thick, I know it's better to cook with them but for the price, you might as well. Dietary cholesterol is a precursor to testosterone so don't be shy about that either.
