Sony PSP or Nintendo DS???
    #8827920 - 08/26/08 12:23 AM (4 years, 8 months ago)

I was considering buying a PSP after seeing how good the graphics are, but I just looked to see what kind of RPGs they have and was pretty disappointed by the selection. The only one that looks decent is the Final Fantasy prequel, but that's not enough for me to buy one. So I checked out the Nintendo DS's RPG selection and it looks like they have like 3 Final Fantasy games, plus some more that look like they could be good.

So which one should I get? Anyone have experiences with both systems?

I own both, and the DS is better IME. I barely ever play video games anymore these days, but I remember the DS just having way more good games, and a lot of them are totally unique. The PSP is basically just a less-powerful handheld PS2, most of its good games are remakes and the ones that aren't are very derivative.

If you want something that has storage space and can play music and movies and pirate shit VERY easily, though, the PSP is the way to go. It's also got a crazy amount of homebrew software, lots of little people developing for it (even though Sony is constantly trying to stamp it out).

The PSP has a lot of potential but really doesn't have many great games.

I'm not a fan of handhelds, I'd rather play on a real sized screen.

But if I had to choose I would get psp, because it can emulate older playstation games, plus I'd want to give Crisis Core a go

and it has wi-fi I think ?

Well I've never owned any hand-held device, and have never really desired to, but it makes alot of sense in my current situation. I do nothing but work, have no TV or computer or anything besides a few books, no mp3 player, etc etc... I also spend a large amount of time riding the bus or waiting for the bus. Where I live there's nothing to do but sleep or read. I'm just looking for something that can do a variety of things (music, videos, games) but isn't TOO expensive. If I had the money I'd just buy a computer, but that won't be feasible anytime soon.

That's weird, I hear alot of good things about the PSP, besides it's lack of games.

Isn't it technically better than the DS, in terms of graphics and processing power?

I loved the graphics and everything the psp had to offer except there weren't any games i actually wanted. Emulating was just to much of a hassle for me to bother but when you can get it setup i hear its pretty awesome.

yeah, thats what i mainly hear is the lack of games and the games it does have mostly suck. the graphics and processing power are probably better no doubt, nintendo was never known for its graphics.

I got a PSP because of the hardcore emulation scene. I can also watch Youtube videos so I bring it to the gym or do cardio and download movies and shit.

The PSP has some gems too. I played Crisis Core: FFVII and it was wicked. I'm playing Jeanne D'arc right now and it's AMAZING. There's Final Fantasy Tactics, Tales of Eternia, Star Ocean (in Japan, will be coming here soon!) and some other great RPGs as well.

You can also play Playstation games on there damn near flawlessly. I just beat Chrono Cross on there. Beating FFVII again and rocking some old school Nintendo games and whatnot.

If I was you I'd go the DS for sure, it has wireless for multiplayer and that shite, not to mention it has so many awesome games and there is such a variety when it comes to the genre of games available. I guess that part is thanks to Nintendo aiming their consoles at all ages.

I have both, and could not pick just one. Since both of mine are hacked, they together are perfect.

Since both have there systems classics - Zelda, Mario, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, PoPoLacrois (awesome RPG for those of you who don't know...it's on the PSP).

You really need to own both to get the full handheld gaming experiance. Also with them being hacked you also get emulators, movies, music, better web browsing, IRC, GPS, basically everything you could need.

EIther way you go tho, be sure to get the "Lite" Version of them (I have a DS lite and a PSP Slim and Lite) and the lite version (on both systems) is a whole lot better then the regular version, you get a smaller, sleeker design with a better screen, the DS has a MUCH nicer backlight which has 3 settings, The PSP has the TV Input feature which allows you to plug the PSP into a HDTV (TV has to be able to support 720p in order to connect to PSP).

if you can only get one, I would honestly say get a Nintendo DS lite and a M3 Real Flash Cart (Which is what allows it to run the homebrew applications). Tho the M3 Real is going to run you about $98 for the bundle I picked up (M3 Real Rumble Ram Pack + 2gig Memory Stick) Which gives you the M3 Real and a Slot 2 (GBA Slot) added Rumble Pack feature along with a RAM pack feature that gives you the option to run GBA roms and GBA based Homebrew. You will also need a Slot 2 RAM pack in order to be able to use the Opera Web Browser rom file).

If you have anymore questions or need help with either, feel free to PM me.
