Hey everybody, I just joined and am interested to see what everyone thinks about psychedelics and spirituality. I am a Christian, and although the use of psychedelics isn't condoned by the church, I feel the idea hasn't been explored enough for them to make a fair judgment-as well as anyone else who hasn't experienced it and automatically assumes them harmful. I believe there is so much we don't know about the Higher Power that created us and by using tools such as psychedelics we can connect to Him/It. I hope to learn a lot from your experiences and opinions and look forward to hearing from everyone.

.............ok ok
Psychedelics wont turn you into an insane black man, and your probally not going to hell for using them. It doesnt mean that psychedelics themselves wont put you in a version of hell. But your probally not going to a lake of fire for using them.
Welcome and I hope you get a glimpse of what your looking for......sadly whatever your searching for will always be a arms reach away from you. You will never touch the answer with psychedelics alone. Keep it in mind.

Welcome. Why would your god think that shrooms are bad? He made them, and gave them to us to use. Thats streght from the christian bible itself.

Wow sweet pics man. And yes the Bible would seem to be ok with eating something that grows naturally like mushrooms. But alcohol's here too and it's a sin to get drunk so idk. But I've heard a few scholars suggest that visions seen by prophets appear strangely similar to psychedelic experiences.

Welcome to the shroomery.
Ever hear of a guy named John Marco Allegro? He explored the role of psychedelics in Christianity and his work is having a bit of a revival these days. Not everyone agrees with him 100%, but I do believe he was the first to bring up the possibility that psychedelics played a role in the formation of Christianity.

Have you heard of the (Good Friday) Marsh Chapel Experiment?

welcome. ive never felt closer to "god", than when deeply submerged in the psychedelic experience. although my ideas of who/what god is has changed dramatically since then. still, there is a definite spiritual aspect to my trips that cannot be ignored.

Welcome to the Shroomery.
I'll start with saying, there's allot of interesting and informative people on this site, there's also allot that will give you crap for being Christian.
I wish all the best in your research and journeys. I'd say Psychedelics will help you, but like anything in this world...it has the potential for abuse.
As stated earlier, they probably won't make you see God, but may give you a more detailed or even completley different perspective on life in general. That's what it has done for me anyway.

Nice, I looked up John Marco Allegro and the Marsh Chapel Experiment, very interesting stuff thanks. I appreciate all the good comments, I didn't really know what to expect but this is fun. And yeah I'm ready to defend my beliefs if I need to (or reconsider if appropriate) but I'm really more interested in discussion and learning from each other. And like you guys said psychedelic experiences definitely make you feel closer to God. I only used mushrooms once, but it changed my entire outlook on religion and life in general. I'm studying to be a pastor and hope to bring these ideas to the Church, blasphemous as that may be to some.

Alot of people hate on christians here, but then alot of people are idiots.
Anyways, welcome.
And in my opinion, the church's anti drug stance cannot be justified by the bible, so I wouldn't worry about it. All they ever quote are shit like the body is the temple of the lord and other crap. What does that have to do with drugs? That has to do with not mistreating your body. Course the church ignorantly believes that drugs are such a mistreatment, but given the artifical distinction they make between medical and recreational use of drugs, which the bible is completely silent about, they obviously have a philosophically weak position.
All the bible says is don't fuck up your body. So don't. We know the LSD and mushrooms will not. We also know christ did not forbid drugs, and in fact served alcohol several times himself in the bible. Therefore drugs cannot be per se forbidden but rather excessive use, or harmful substances such as sodium cyanide, is what is forbidden. So since their are no negative effects from the occasional drink or drunk, shroom or five, or anything else, I see no reason why the bible prohibits such and can only conclude the church is out on a limb they have no support for other than some generalized notion of "drugs are bad" which has no corroboration with the bible.
