they seem to be doing these in bars a lot, but these games are far from nerdy, they are mass appeal games, but i think they are dumb and not video gamey at all.

Game where you drive some little cart along a track that's built using songs.. the songs influence how the track will go. It's weird

my music skills are limited
this is just in a bar that has this game. seems to be a popular game to have in a bar.
anything else seems way too much for people
what happened to arcade games?
all bar games are deerhunter (cool) golf (eh, ok) and bowling (cool, with the trackball)
i miss real video games in pubs tho

People always say, "its just like dance dance revolution" when really it much more similair to amplitude. In fact the game is practically the same thing just with a normal controler.
I think guitar hero can be a lot of fun its just very boring on anything under expert. I don't think Im some guitar pro, if anything its more like a keyboard but that doesn't mean it cant be fun. Its like any other game, hitting the right button at the right time.

yeah, but its ALL right button right time.
it takes no thought beyond that.
it takes no strategy, its button pushing.
i grew up playing video games, they help your mind and coordination.
this is just "push button"
not "do this, do that, watch out for bad guy, etc"
its a step way back.

but if you look at it from a game designer's perspective or even from an interaction design point of view, it's a brilliant concept. fair enough, the actual ui can be compared to ddr, but there's some differences.
it's a rather good social game to play with people - some argue that playing these games makes people start fake bands, play fake instruments, but since the release of these games it's encouraged a high percentage of people to start playing proper instruments like the guitar or drums.
plus, i've found myself appreciating genres of music i once never really liked before. i have a new found respect for metal musicians for example.
but to each their own i guess
