I was thinking more along the line of Asimov's Foundation series, but that's another good example.
Maybe the large set of star wars books gets a chance to take a few extra nabs at social commentary, although I wouldn't know anything about that.

i think its kind of like the residual strong force which is a natural force like magnetism which holds the protons of an atom to the nucleus with the neutrons
thers lots of natural forces in our world which are invisible to us and that have some connection which we do not know about also kind of like gravity, its this force that can barely be explained

Eh, it's not like trying to get through a John Locke essay. I always thought his writing style was very plain (read: easy to read, not boring). I could see where that's true in a day and age where nobody reads, and anything scifi in text that doesn't have to do with furry alien sex is considered intellectual.
PS: I just started reading book 5 of Orson Scott Card's Enders Game series, and he opens with child prostitution. Doesn't get much more intellectual than that.

Ether?
Didn't watch the videos, but it sounds like they're presenting the train of thought that caused me to stop watching TV years ago... good post & good discussion.
I hope anyone who enjoys the archetypes of star wars has read some Joseph Cambell; that puts it into the light in which Lucas envisioned it.
