Nice shots, dickenz.

What makes you think it's not Coprinopsis atramentaria aka Coprinus atramentarius?

I think it is.  Nah, but if you eat those you can't drink alcohol for five days.

Quote:

Like Antabuse, Coprinopsis atramentaria produces no ill effects--unless you consume alcohol, which will trigger nausea, vomiting, rash, dizziness, and so on. Theoretically, Coprinopsis atramentaria is a safe edible if no alcohol is consumed for about five days. However, there is evidence that the alcohol "consumption" can be as little as smelling rubbing alcohol or perfume! All in all, the mushroom is best avoided; I don't recommend it for the table.

This reminds me

There is a park near where I work that if you hit it on the right day you cannot take a step without knocking one of these over!

Thanks for the info on the alcohol! I'll definetly backlog that.

The white man can never win another war on the ground. His days of war, victory, his reign -- his days of ground victory are over. Can I prove it? Yes. Take all the action that's going on this earth right now that he's involved in -- tell me where he's winning. Nowhere.
Why some rice farmers -- some rice eaters ran him out of Korea. Yes, they ran him out of Korea. Rice eaters with nothing but gym shoes, and a rifle, and a bowl of rice took him and his tanks and his napalm, and all that other action he's supposed to have and ran him across the Yalu. Why? 'Cause the day that he can win on the ground has passed.

Im gonna try this recipe out for breakfast sometime...is there any way to keep these from turning to goo...or can you  just cook them anyways?

Baked Egg and Ink Caps6 ink caps
4 eggs
1 clove garlic
Pepper and salt
Butter

The ink caps reduce a lot on cooking so this sort of dish, where you add them as a flavouring to eggs or something else, is ideal. SERVES TWO-FOUR

Shaggy ink caps have a very delicate flavour that benefits from a touch of garlic. Clean and chop the ink caps, discarding the stems, and fry for two minutes in butter. Butter four cocotte dishes, add an egg to each and then top with the half-cooked mushrooms. Flavour with pepper and salt and a tiny squeeze of fresh garlic on each. Bake in a pre-heated, hot oven 200°C (400°F, Mark 6).

Yes.  I split them in two and put them in ice water in the fridge.  The best thing to do is to collect them for breakfast, either that morning or late the night before.  I don't try to hold onto them for too long.

I've battered and fried them too.  They were pretty good.

plastic bags and mushrooms are a bad combination, it usually doesnt breath, and gets bacteria in it.

Paper bags or styrofoam cartons work real excellent, and allows your mushroom to breath. Coprinus species however dont keep very long so after too long it may turn to mush.
