ID REQUEST

Hi there. this was my first time picking about a month ago and unfortunatly only have this photo as my camera broke before i realised you could do ID requests. since then Ive dryed them and crushed them to store so thats no use to me! I also have to apologise for pulling out the base of the stems as I was only told by a friend who does this more than me - to flick the cap to spread the spores for future pickers, and wasnt told about scissors (I only found this out by reading past forums last night). Anyway, i digress,

Habitat: Found in E suburbs of Melbourne. On Grass park area surrounded by Pine trees
Gills: dark brown getting lighter when closer to edge of cap
Stem: white with radial (dont know if this is the right word) lines. Inside stem is brown
Cap: light brown with slight nipple
Spore print color: Black
Bruising: Blue at base, blue stem when dryed
Cheers

Hey there captain..
From what i can see you've definitely got subs there, although it's up to you to make sure ALL of them are subs, since most of them are obscured in the picture. Be tripley sure that all of them blued, and that they ALL had a dark purple/brown or purple/black print.

Cheers.
One last question if anyone knows. I've been drying them in paper bags on the air vent on low heat for a couple of hours until completely dry. Can you also put them in the oven on a low heat or will this kill the hallucinogenics?

i wouldn't risk it, too much heat can really fuck the potency. The air vent would work fine if you just leave them there longer... 2 hours probably isn't enough, they should almost shatter at the slightest touch, not bend at all. Usually takes a couple of days.
If you've got a PC screen or a TV or a Foxtel box or something, just leave them on the vents on top, even leave them there until you're inclined to eat them. The gentle heat and rising air is perfect.

It's really unnecessary to flick the caps. Spores are produced on basidia on the gill face. They are forcibly ejected from the basidia when enough hygroscopic pressure builds up. Tapping or gravity has little to do with it.
Undergrounder's advice is sound.
Nice find. It is better to put one mushroom in a picture though if you want them identified accurately.
