College Student- Grow Bag or PF Tek?

Was wondering how much more convenient a mycobag is compared to the PF Tek. I am willing to make the BRFcakes and steam the jars and inoculate and make a fruiting chamber, but it just seems like so much more work when you can just get a spore syring and 2 growbags for 40 bucks and just get started as soon as you get both items.

I only plan on growing enough for me and my roomate, and maybe a few friends. In grams about how many would I get if I had 2 successful growbags going simultaneously with Golden Teacher Strain? Also, how many flushes could I get? Is Golden Teacher even a good strain to use with growbags?

I was really planning on getting a whole system going but after watching some vids and reading some guides it just seems like so much work and such a high risk of contam, whereas the growbags seem so opposite.

If the myco bag is ready to knock up then that's half the battle. The two bags will grow plenty for 2-6 people. Make sure you weigh your doses when you get your boomers fruited.

you'd get alot more out of the growbag if you waited until they were colonized and then spawned to something else, and growbags take forever to fully colonize.

you could always inoculate a master culture then just do grain to grain transfers to something like horse poo

lots of yeild, fairly quick

good idea to go with the growbags...
My advice would be to just get the filtered bags, the process is simple enough to do on your own, going to bulk with crumbled cakes.

If you're growing on campus, BE CAREFUL about who you tell and how well everything is hidden.

I am not growing on campus. I mean... technically I am my apartment is owned by the schools realty... but I have a very very good spot that is basically begging to have my pot and shrooms stored in them, and it is very close to the radiator in my room. I live with just one roomate and she is the one that introduced to to shrooms. Also, I wouldnt tell anyone that I grow them I would just have them assume I got them from someone else.

What does spawned to something else mean? I wanna get the most of them as possible I just have been waiting all summer ( at an education program away from home) doing my research and want to get them started as soon as possible.

Also what is a master culture and grain to grain transfers? Is this difficult or costly?

And going bulk to crumbled cakes?

Use the javascript menus on the top of any page here & go 'Mushroom Info > Grow Mushrooms' to get answers. Be prepared to read, read, read!

I think the basic theme is the more you put in (time-wise at least), the better the results. Sounds like growbags are easy, but take a long time. Grains are difficult (require PQ, spawning, casing, etc) but yield better results. Liquid culture is better than syringes, etc... It's really a matter of time and resources.

If this is your first grow, culturing and G2G transfers are probably a little advanced. Personally, I'd invest about $100 - $150, get/build a decent FC, PQ & spoors in a syringe and try one of the grain teks... or just try the BRF cakes...

growbags are basically.. inoculate and let sit

everything else you have to take care of, but it's worth it, more yeild, and alot quicker

i used to think LC was better, but after reading up more and more i find more people here recommending using a master culture to knock up grain, then doing grain2 grain as a faster way than liquid cultures, plus it's alot less hit-or-miss

but if i were you, i'd get some spores, make some jars, inoculate them, then when they're fully colonized spawn to the poo!

Get some popcorn, some spore syringes, jiffy mix, and a fruiting chamber. It's really quite easy to hide a big chamber. Mine sits right behind a large flatscreen tv in a shelf you have to actually remove the big TV to know it's there, even with the flourescent on. Spawning is for example, you got some colonized grain jars so you mix that in with 4 times as much straw, or coir. It triples/quadrouples your yield and the shrooms are a lot bigger when spawning to bulk.

I guess I will just go with the PF tek.... I want to get these things fruited quickly and get enough out of them to last the semester. How many cakes can I get with 1/2 pint jars from one syringe?

a normal syringe contains 10cc. i would guess you would wanna use half a cc of syringe fluid per jar. so 20 cakes per syringe.

really if you start out at grain and read as much as possible and follow say Doc's wbs tek to a T. then you will get much more yield then cakes and it will be faster. BRF takes a while to colonize.

id use pftek its cheaper and materials are easier to get a hold of plus you dont need a pressure cooker meaning less attention on your studies.

yea it would but seeing as .5cc is such a small amount i would just stick with it. it's not like .5cc of liquid is going to throw off the water content.
