Sweet smelling myc?

Has anyone ever had a myc jar colonized on WBS that smelled sweet like honey when you opened it? I just popped the top on an ecuador quart jar of WBS spawn to mix with some coir and it smells like sugar. Could this be just from the byproducts that the myc made or is this a bad jar? It looks perfectly fluffy (it did at least before I bonked it to break up the myc)
This jar was spawned from syringe not from a sugar based LC.

I'm trying to figure out whether to go ahead and spawn this jar or not.. the jar isn't pungent at all, but I'm leary because I'm not smelling a mushroom odor at all. Just the sugary smell. This jar has been colonizing for a long time, much longer than it probably should have. I'm wondering if maybe the mushroom smell is gone because of that and I should go ahead and spawn it just to see what happens.

really, if you dont see anything bad that looks like an infection, and it doesnt make you turn your head and vomit, its cool..
you WILL notice a fucked up smell if they are contam'd, and its something you will not have to second guess..
Without looking, I cannot say for sure, but from your description, its fine..

So you think even though there's no mushie smell to the jar at all that it's ok? It looks ok as far as I can tell, and there's no nasty smell. It just smells a bit like glucose.

Here's a couple of shots.. they're not too clear but maybe you can tell from these.

I had too much coffee and couldn't hold my hands still
As a side note - this jar was from a batch that did nothing for a very long time and then it started to colonize. It's entirely possible for it to be contaminated I've just never heard of a contam that smelled good before.

really? is there mycelium? If its fully colonized, then you should at least smell SOME mushy smell.. if you dont smell ANY mushy smell, then there is for sure something wrong..

Yeah there's just a sugar smell to the jar and that's it. I'm probably not gonna waste the effort spawning it.. I have 17 jars colonizing right now so that'll keep me busy I was just hoping to have something to work on today since I'm home. No biggie.. ecuador isn't my fave strain that I've worked with so far.. it didn't fruit very well for me the last batch I did. I have 10 Amazonians colonizing and 7 golden teachers that I'm psyched about. PESA has done right by me so far, and golden teachers have a pretty decent reputation.

it doesnt matter if you used equador or whatever.. you used spores, so you will not always get good results.. I have grown those, and had great flushes, but I also isolated a strain..
If they are fully colonized, I would say they are good..

If it smells sweet and no mushroom smell, it's contaminated with bacteria. Toss it out. RR

I just birthed one of my pint jar cakes and the smell was kind of pungent but I looked all over the thing and all through the dry verm layer and there was no trich.
I got trich on a small cake last week and tossed it out, so I know that trich smells pungent and nasty but the cake I just birthed smelled a little bit like that too. Or maybe my mind is playing tricks on me.
Either way the cake smelled pretty pungent, and I know you always reference that "good mushroom smell" as per in your Let's Grow Mushrooms video (specifically the BRF one), can you explain exactly (or can anyone) what that smell is supposed to smell like?
Also do I have anything to worry about with this cake? Should I take any kind of a precaution like putting a capful of bleach in the dunking I have with the one cake in it?
thanks
edit; btw, this is b+ cube in BRF PF TEK jars

you will only see trich after it sporulates.. the green is from its spores, not the fungus itself..
That "good mushroom smell" cannot be described.. you have to smell it.. a fresh colonized jar of brf will for sure give this smell.. its very.. very.. umm.. mushy... its inexplicable.. you just have to smell it.. that sweet smell may be what we are talking about..
can you post a pic of the cake, so we can see it? that may help.. again, if its fully colonized, and smells like mushy, then you are good.. now we just go to figure out what your definition of mushy smell is..

well...it's dunking now but I guess I can take another smell hold on.
...
Ok. Yeah it smells earthy and fungus-y . Not really as pungent but maybe that's because it's been dunking for a little bit? Maybe because I wasn't used to the smell initially and it hit me harder at first?
Hmmm
Well, we'll see. I'm going to roll it tomorrow afternoon and put it in the FC with the two half pints I have in there. If these fail, it's no big deal since there are only three and I have ten more pints (colonized at 90% right now) and 12 half pints that are in the area of 50%.
