holy shit. donnie darko is the most beautiful movie ever. it inspired me to make this thread as i am a film buff and need some new movies.
just list one movie and any info on it and why you like it if you feel like it and arent too lazy.
i start.
bad boy bubby a man is kept in his house till he's 35. sexualy abused by his mum. escapes and discovers the world. best movie I have ever seen. an australian film. deep, unique, dark, completely un-hollywood-ish.

Well a amazing to watch, stoned or not is "The Thief and the Cobbler" it's an old movie made by the same dude who made "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?". It's a little mature, but if you watch it with kids, they won't understand why it's gross (just like roger rabbit). And you can watch the whole thing if you search it on Google Video last time I checked...Oh, and if you get sick when you see things that are trippy when you aren't high, I don't recommend the movie for when you're stoned.

You'll get different reviews on Darko. I like it. If you're into odd you might try Running with Scissors, a personal memoir of Augusten Burroughs' weird as fuck childhood. His mother turns lesbian and adopts him off to her shrink who has a masterbatorium. It's definitely the most fucked-up childhood I ever heard of.

I know this is cliche but the book is a lot better still a good movie though.

JAWS.
The original.
Shows how human beings respond to tragedy both individually and in groups better than any movie in history. Humans are irrational and that trait is portrayed most beautifully in this film.

Pulp Fiction for dialogue, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest for acting, Layer Cake for sheer entertainment, Wedding Crashers for comedy, and Im sure I'm leaving plenty out.
Donnie Darko did a very poor job of making sense to viewers who didn't read the book. people tell me i should read the book or the source material, but i think the movie sucked for the most part and can't enjoy psuedo-goth/emo movies that give people a false sense of something esoteric.
Sparkle Motion and the motivational speaker were both hilarious though

So were the LOTR trilogy, still the movies rocked.
There's a lot to be said, or left unsaid, about Darko. I thought the director's cut edition blew. I had like a collection of the movie-VHS, DVD regular, DVD director's cut. The movie was a rave in England because of when it came out. It didn't do well here for the same reason.
The extras in the DVD are pretty cool, especially the commentary on the motivational segment.

Same version, released at a different time. I think the Brits got it like a year later. Could be wrong though.
