There seems to be a lot of hype about 2012. A lot of good, and a lot of bad. What do you think will happen in 2012? Or is it just the new y2k?

I chose option number four.
It is clear to me that President Obama will declare 2012 a forbidden year and skip straight over to 2013. 
The fear mongerers will become the fear mongered!

I think in 2012 I will be living in an apartment, with a decent job, and a grip of good droogz.

Uh... I believe 2012 is a year, and I will probably live to see it. I don't anything out of the norm will happen though.

I believe in 2008, 2008 exists now, there is no guarantee that I or anyone else will see 2009.

i think jesus will walk and all the jews will be united and they will print a golden coin that says in 2012 jesus came back, saved the jews and put it on a coin. then the astroid hits and new civilization is born and they find the coin and worship it and hope that jesus walks again so there are more coins.

If something does happen in the year 2012, I don't think we will be able to realize its significance until much later. Maybe someone in a lab will discover a new source of energy that will change our planet in the year 2012, but not realize its potential until years later. Maybe 2012 is when global warming will finally start producing those "super" storms we keep hearing about. Maybe the next Prez of the US will attack a country it will mark the beginning of the next World War.
Or who knows, there might not be anything.
But Umbrellamaker is right. 2012 does tie into several things of historical and scientific significance. Mainly, Earths and the Sun's galactic alignment.
Astronomers have already verified that in 2012, our Sun will eclipse the center of the galaxy (with respect to Earth). Does that mean the Earth will explode or something? No...its happened before and Earth is still here. But it is a pretty significant event if you think about it.

That is actually a myth. You can observe the water draining either way in either hemisphere. The Coriolis force is far to weak to effect water in a drain, only big things like hurricanes and Foucault pendulums. Regardless..... Where in physics does it point to 2012? Is the sun lining up with the galactic center it?
