Two instances of one species (hopefully!) are displayed here. Four images should be displayed here:

Habitat: Well-kept grassy median of a roadway. [author removed city/state (8/21/08]
Gills: Not very gill-like. Im guessing pores?
Stem: Length- 3 to 4 inches diameter- 0.75 to 1 inch color- reddish texture- firm, not brittle solid, not hollow thick- thicker toward the bottom
Cap:
Diameter- 3 to 3.5 inches color- reddish, reveals light orange where split texture- bouncy, full of moisture conical/spherical- not a cone convex/concave - not sure
Spore print color: Very important! - Spore print is pending. I will supplement this response.
Bruising: When I cut off the stem, the cuts quickly turned blue, then black. That color went away.
Other information:
Scent of the mushroom - Smells like feces. Anything else you think is important - very full of moisture. Large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills - hopefully I manage to properly attach the photos. The coins are United States Quarters. The measure denotes inches on the edge closest to the fungus.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. This is my first attempt at a find.

Sounds like you have some type of bolete. Could you post a pic that works?

Sorry about that.
I edited the post to fix the photo problem.
Thanks!

Thanks. Sadly, you've found a type of bolete that is nigh impossible to ID accurately without a good microscope and a variety of chemicals on hand. To add insult to injury, Hypomyces mold has started to attack the pore surfaces so that we can't tell the pore sizes or color. Similar mushrooms include B. sensiblis, B. pseudosensiblis, B. bicolor, B. rubellus, and many more.
Call it whatever you like and assume its poisonous B. bicolor is said to be a good edible, but I'm certain your specimens aren't that, and the other species in this cluster that aren't poisonous tend to be mediocre edibles at best.

I would hope you weren't planning on eating it anyway if it smells like feces.

I found some similar boletes yesterday afternoon. No poop smell, though. I think the ones I found were Boletus rubricitrinus. I'm guessing the spore print is olive-brown, right? I found mine in SW Houston under an oak near a mexican restaurant. No, I'm not getting more specific than that.

I'm currently looking for cultures of the following species:
Calocybe indica, Chlorophyllum rachodes, Lentinula boryana, Polyporus umbellatus

boletes apparently are best dried and reconstituted in something... just for future reference.
I saw some nice ones today, and I'll get 'em when I go home to take pics and ID them. I'm hoping they're the rubricitrinius I found last time and didn't get to eat.

My attempt at a spore print failed.
I left them under a bowl on a piece of paper overnight. They were so water-logged that they just soaked through the paper. The resulting stain was brownish, though.
Thanks!

boletes typically don't need to be under a bowl. They take FOREVER to dry out anyway... you can just put them on the paper.
