 New PM Mailing List Feature

If you've ever wanted to send a private message to multiple recipients, I've finally made a PM mailing list feature. Basically you create a mailing list, people join it, then you can send a PM to everyone on the list. To create a PM mailing list, click the little "create a mailing list" link on the new PM page:
There are several options for you to specify. You can make your list invite-only, or allow anyone to join. If it's invite-only, you can specify who's allowed to send invites. You can also decide who is able to post to the list: any list member, or just you. At the bottom of the form you can enter users who will receive invites to the new list. You can always send invites later too, and edit your groups, from your main PM lists page. After your list is created, it will appear in the address book drop-down when you go to compose a new PM.
There's actually quite a bit more to it than this but I don't want to overwhelm people with details. I'm sure if you use the functionality you'll figure everything out. This is a brand new feature and there may be bugs, so please post any problems, suggestions or questions in this thread. I hope some people find this useful! And by the way thanks to legallyhomeless whose post finally got me off my ass on this one, and all the other users who have suggested similar things in the past. It's all your guys' suggestions that make this site great!

I created a bullshit list called "Test", but it appears in my dropdown list four times.

If you are the owner of the mailing list, you can click on it from your PM List Overview and view all the members (and have the option to delete them). However if you don't own the list, the other members are hidden for privacy reasons. I was going to make this a per-list configuration option, but the project had already grown well beyond my original plan, so I figured I'd wait and see if it even gets used before spending more time adding features.

great job. my only concern is, doesn't this promote spam? for example all the users getting "hey man give me some drugs" from a user with 0 posts. make's it easier for them

Right, the whole point was to prevent spam, you can only receive bulk messages if you join a mailing list, and you can unsubscribe from a list at any time.

Some day I'll use it to distribute notifications of whenever I get around to finishing the whole terrarium automation project. That is, if anyone's actually waiting for that sort of thing to become available. 
If the list is set to "Anyone can join", how would anyone see the lists they could potentially subscribe to?

On the PM list page at http://www.shroomery.org/forums/pmlists.php there is a list of the 10 most recently created public lists with join links, which I may expand to include full list browsing and searching if/when the number of lists warrants it. As the owner of the only public list so far, you won't see it since the list will appear under 'Subscribed Lists' for you. But it looks like this for me:
You can also go to the details page for the list by clicking on its title, and in the "invite users" section it gives a link you can share which lets people join.

Very nice indeed. I'd have never expected it possible to add as many features and improvements to the forum software, as you all have.
The lists might not see their potential realized for a few months, but at least the infrastructure is there and ready for utilization.
Though moderators have handled mass PMs for gatherings in the past, with this feature any member could maintain a list for the purposes of keeping potential attendees updated. And, the list of members could indicate at least an estimate of who's going. So there's certainly more than one way in which this could be helpful.

Thanks for the kind words, and for pointing out that bug.  I didn't figure there would be a ton of new PM lists right from the start, but this feature has been getting requested for years so I figured it was time to finally add it.
