First time Salvia experience
    #8695954 - 07/29/08 02:50 AM (3 years, 9 months ago)

So I did Salvia a few nights ago for the first time (effectively) and holy fucking shit... zero-WTF in 3 seconds. I cant even comprehend what happened... it wasnt an enlightening experience and it wasnt fun, but it was an experience.

So heres the trip report remembered to the best of my ability and described in the best details I can provide.-

Me and my friend sat down on the carpet floor around one of those glass globes with electricity flowing through them that follows your finger if you touch the globe. We turned off all the lights except a black light and got some Pink Floyd going. We packed the 30x Salvia in our bong. I was sober going into it. My friend had already done it so I was up first. After some meditation and deep breathing, I took the biggest rip of my life and held it in for as long as I could. Immediately I felt my heart race and then I was plunged face first into another dimension. Everything in my close surroundings became a part of me and engulfed me. My body became completely independent from my mind and I had no control over my bodily movements. Visuals like nothing I had ever experienced on shrooms or LSD came into view. Everything I could see was folding into itself and rotating. I wasnt aware of the bigger picture, when I do other psychedelics I am always aware of space... salvia constricted me. It felt almost as if I was in a bubble - floating - and rotating. It was strange- this life felt "natural"... it felt like every person in the world was apart of my trip and this was true life... this dimension. Everything around me engulfed me, including the bong. At some point I felt the bong consume me and it occurred to me that bongs are filled with water, it felt as if my entire being was filled with bong water... and so I turned to my right and spit right onto my friends carpet to "cleanse" my body from the bong water... I didnt want to drown! To me, an entire stream of water gushed out of my mouth. This snapped me out of it a little bit. I slowly got to my feet, walked about 3 steps, turned and looked back to the spot I was sitting and said, "...what the FUCK?" I asked my friend what happened from his point of view and he said I took the bong rip... handed it to him... he handed the cherry back to me and I hit it again... which, by the way, I dont remember at ALL. Then he said I sat and stared at my lap for about 4-5 minutes, spit on his carpet, and then continued to stare at my lap for another 30 seconds before extraordinarily slowly getting up to my feet and walking that short distance away. That was the most confusing psychedelic experience of my life... it was just weird...

Was it fun? Not really. Was it enlightening? No. Am I glad I did it? Yes, it wasnt a good experience and it wasnt a bad experience, but it was eye opening in that it shed light on a new perspective.

can you comprehend a dream?
what is a dream?
with salvia trips you get a chance to see how some experience fragments mix with others, forming entire cosmologies in a flash.
the perspective is towards the nature of mind I think.
what is a dream?

Sounds about right...

At the risk of offending my friend redgreen vines, who, I believe, has a very special, sacred, and satisfying relationship with The Lady, I have to say my personal experience mirrors your own...little enlightenment, very dissociative, often frightening.

I suspect, however, if I had redgreenvines as a near-at-hand shaman-guide, I'd have a somewhat different opinion and experience.  Wish I knew what his secret is (hint, hint), because I have quite a bit stashed that I have little interest in revisiting without better guidance than I seemed to have received thusfar (hint, hint).

Like my friend, rgv, I also have had only positive experiences with salvia.  I cannot credit a resident shaman for the nature of my trips, but I think it is likely that salvia trips reflect the nature of one's own mind.  Many, if not most, of us are entirely unfamiliar with and uncomfortable with our own minds, and thus the average salvia experience is unfamiliar and uncomfortable.

But that's just my best guess.

Hmmm...yes.  But I would add to that list the vagaries of set, setting, dosage and wetware.  It is highly likely that individuals vary to a heretofore unsuspected degree in internal brain chemistry, receptor site numbers, etc., etc. which makes our responses and experiences with the same substance, well, just different.

Yes... Everything is a factor when it comes to variance in trips. One of the main reasons I thought I was in a bubble rotating was because I kind of felt claustrophobic in that setting. My friend's bedroom wall was about 3 feet in front of my face. One of the first things I did when I came down was turn on the lights to break free of that dimension that I was engulfed in... the darkness trapped me... which brings me back to one of my first points-- salvia is constricting.

Smoking salvia - even plain leaf - makes me lose my ego for about 5 minutes, with no visuals, just a twisting/ pressure feeling in my head and chest. On the way down, i keep doubting my reality, until i finally figure out ive been smoking.
Subligually, i can have awesome closed eye visuals, but still with rational thought about my own existence and ego. I still have shrinking feelings, and intense feelings of deja vu and familiarity.

Anyone else find this ego loss with smoking? and the deja vu sorta thing?

When I did shrooms I had the constant feeling of familiarity. Everything about the shrooms felt familiar like It was destiny or something. Really weird.
