Boletus sedimentarius
Do you agree?

Amanitas kill more people than all other mushrooms put together, so an ID of some to be eaten must be correct. An ID based on a photo on the Internets is not reliable enough to potentially risk your life on. ToxicMan

Could be, Drew.  I just thought they looked a little small for that.  It could be their age.  The stems didn't look red enough to me either.

Good guess though.

Damn, I thought I posted an ID in your thread.  Sorry man.

How about Boletus campestris or Boletus rubellus?  Remember, these are supposed to be poisonous.

Yep, looks like Campestris. I didnt look microscopically at the spores, but it fits the Campestris charecteristics better.

I wasnt gonna eat it, man! Even though bicolor looks similiar and is a choice edible, i still wouldnt eat anything that looks like these! Those colours are natures way of saying "TOXIC"

Must be a damn good identifier then:

Quote:

Some field guides advise amateurs that the mushrooms in this species complex are so similar that a microscope is needed to make an accurate identification. But in this case even using a microscope (at least, using a microscope to the extent that an amateur mycologist like me can use one) provides only a little assistance; spore sizes and shapes for the various species in question are close, and the cellular structures of the cap surfaces are either inconsistently documented or documented but too similar to be of much use.

http://www.mushroomexpert.com/boletus_campestris.html

It's cousin, Boletus rubellus is not a safe edible. Edibility is not known, and similar species may be poisonous.

To each their own.  But you wouldn't catch me playing mushroom roulette.  (Or encouraging others to do the same)

Im not encouraging im just saying boletus camp is edible, i never said to eat it.

I dont always trust mushroomexpert.com for good answers as far as edibles go, since they say to not eat sum that i always eat. I would say for a novice dont eat certain bolete, amanitas but if you know what your doing there delicious.

Yeah, it seems like Kuo is afraid of everything except Oysters and a few other edibles.  I agree, if you have experience with certain mushrooms, like the one in question, it's ok to try some.  If not, don't do it.
