I never understand why people say they need the first hand help with finding mushies...i get tons of PM's with people asking me to take them hunting all the time. All the info you need is here on this site, other than that just get out there and hunt everyday. It took me a year of hunting weilii to find my first one many many years ago. I think its fun taking the time to hunt mushrooms, dont get discouraged if you dont find anything at first but when you do its a great feeling. Mushroom hunting wouldnt be much of a hobby if it was easy.

My patch o sod has not worked. But, my compost pile and garden have them popping. Good luck with the sod. I think I messed up my sod by having it in too much shade for the first month I had it.

I'm curious,I found what looked like subs in a horse pasture last week, but it didn't bruise blue, it fell apart before i had a chance to give it a spore print. could this have been a sub? I assume due to the active ingredients in the mushroom it would have bruised blue, yet i guess it stands to reason due to the dark color of the mushroom it might not look blue. Anyone know?

Where are you located?
If it fell apart it could be psathyrella maybe. Subbalteatus does not fall apart easily.
And Panaeolus Subbalteatus is usually abbreviated as "Subbs" Psilocybe Subaeruginosa is abbreviated as "subs"
This helps to avoid confusion between these two species.

HPoo compost. Mostly stable shavings and straw. I use it in my garden. My compost pile is roughly 1' high, 4' long and 3' wide. It gets full sun from 630am till about 8pm and I water it when I water my garden. I only get a few at a time. I plan on moving it and adding to it when we move into our new place. I also plan on putting a small layer of really good compost down over my yard before the first snowfall. Hopefully my yard will be popping with them after that. On another note, I gathered some more today. Not as much as yesterday though. Sucks not having internet on the computer. I want to post pics damnit!!!!!

THANKS. you know thats actually what i thought when i found em... but the lack of bluing except for a little at the very base and myc. told me other wise... that and the fact that i live in pa and ive never heard of them growing up here. Idk if its simply sun exposure or what but there def seems to be "lightcaps" and "darkcaps" at that sight.. maybe ill try growing both in a controlled setting.
but they're def pretty potent subbs comparable to cubies gram for gram easily imo. haven't seen any quite that nice at that spot in a while but the conditions just havent met up like they were. either its 90+ with no rain or plenty of rain but 70's droping to near 50's at night. im not worried tho im more than stocked up

Pan subbs and allies (e.g. Paneolopsis spp.) seem to rarely stain blue, in my (relatively little) experience, so I don't expect to see the color change reaction. I concentrate on the characteristics of the stems and the black spore prints for the most part.

I'm pretty sure it was a pan, it mainly fell apart because i dropped it on a concrete floor, it didn't have a hairy stem though, but it was in a Field where a lady drops horse manure every morning, so I'm going back early Sunday morning. we had a good rain down here in FL, so we will see, i might have my mom lend me her digital cam for pics.
