Question
    #8677728 - 07/24/08 08:22 PM (28 days, 39 minutes ago)

Im 99.999% sure that these are edible but just wanted to check with yall about these amanitas.

A. rubescens

A. jacksonii

Notice the veil is yellow so is the stipe

Striations on the cap

Just makin sure, i ate a jacksonii the other day and wanted to try the rubescens tonight, i know they have to be cooked well.

Eh, man I've never been one to experiment with Amanita. Just a scary genus.

Can't be responsible for that, Bro.  Sorry.

Good luck, maybe someone else will help you out.

Amanitas kill more people than all other mushrooms put together, so an ID of some to be eaten must be correct. An ID based on a photo on the Internets is not reliable enough to potentially risk your life on. ToxicMan

Yeah, I know.  You're a braver man than I am.

Do you know exactly what to look for with the A. rubescens?  I can help you out with that.

Then, you're on your PWN!

I see all the macroscopic characteristics except the "fragile superior ring."

I'm gonna dig through my pics and find one of mine to post in your thread.

You're probably right.  I just hate saying "Good to go" on an Amanita.  I got no balls (or too much sense )

Some of the one i have had rings sum did not, the big one did not since it was old the two in the middle are not visible but are there(cap covers them up there very young)and the one on the far right was on the ground around the base of the stipe. We have had lots of rain here in GA so i think it washed off.

Veil shots are good if you plan on eating a mushroom, but I'm sure you know that.

Nice photos.

If you do eat them tell us what they taste like.  I'm curious.
