East Tennessee Hunt (ID Help & Discussion)
    #8677663 - 07/24/08 08:03 PM (4 months, 9 days ago)

Me and a friend of mine went shroom hunting today. I tried to take several in habitat shots, and to only remove one or two specimens from each cluster of a different type I found. I am a novice at this and will say that I am sorry if this is still hastily done. I may have clustered a few different types into one group thinking they all looked similar.

Also I am going to upload a couple of different types of mushroom for ID, so I am going to call this POST ONE. I have a mushroom ID guide on loan from a friend so I am going to try and ID these myself but for now I'm uploading them on the internet before I forget and lose the pictures and while the information is still fresh in my head.

I'm looking to see if any of these are active (which I doubt any are) or if any are edible (I think I may have found a bolete)

Habitat:
Hard wood & Pine Forest; Near a Large Mountain Stream; Approx 2200 foot above sea level. Old/New Growth, Leaf Litter, decaying trees, thick mountain moss.

Gills:
Greyish brown gills, irregular/ not identically shaped

Stem:
8 or so inches (working its way out of a tree stump) appears to be textured, looks like bark, grey streaks

Cap:
About two inches across/wavy, concave down, light brown with spots

Spore print color:
N/A ATM

Bruising:
no bruising present

Other information:
Earthy smell, in close proximity to a large mountain stream (about 15 foot away) Picture Set 5

I have no idea man. Nice ID request and pics! I'm sure someone will help you out. I'm from Chattanooga. I'm guessing you live there too. Man, I miss that place. :frown: Keep up the good work and welcome to Shroomery. :borat:

#3 is an Amanita sp.

--------------------

Amanitas kill more people than all other mushrooms put together, so an ID of some to be eaten must be correct. An ID based on a photo on the Internets is not reliable enough to potentially risk your life on. ToxicMan
