Need help identifying what was up with this mushroom
    #8672287 - 07/23/08 03:10 PM (2 months, 14 days ago)

So I left this mushroom out to get a print but when I came back I found this.
Any idea what those worms are and are they dangerous?

All I see in your picture is a brown blob surrounded by smaller brown blobs.

Most of the time when growers see 'worms', it's maggots from flies laying eggs in the caps.

Lol yea most of the mushroom was actually gone, all that was left was a few pieces of dried shriveled up mushroom, which I promptly threw away.

I also brushed off most of the worms/maggots before taking the pic as I didn't know I would be using it to help with any kind of identification at the time.

Anyway if they were maggots would eating this mushroom before I left it out like that have made me sick?

Oh and as this was a wild mushroom is it more likely that the flies layed the eggs while it was in the wild, or in my house? Or could it have happened anywhere.

Thanks for the help so far : D

make you sick..eating maggots? maybe..I've seen bear grylls do it...but if it was wild good chances that fly got a lot of its nutrient from dung so yea getting sick would of happened.
