old thread wow, not sure if anyone has posted more about this subject, or if the design from the disabled people growers link was ever shared or explored in greater detail, either way I think this link is revelant:

$21 dollars for a solar pasturizer / possible steam generator. Cant wait for the dude to release the plans.

Another link from a quick google search unrelated to the above.

I've made a solar cooker before in high school, they work but I'm not certain it's going to get up to sterilization temps and stay there, it's totally dependent on the weather. You can make a cheap one out of card board, tin foil and saran wrap.

Nice, I was just about to buy some copper for a radiant pasturizer, seems like solar heating it would be the logical next step.

From that link it says they we're able to reach almost 180f with a tracking collector, which they felt was not efficient enough, they brought up solar glass glazing which is cost prohibitive but gives the best results. I wonder what kind of materials john grandinettis uses to get better results for 21 dollars.

Either im on board the solar pasturization train, toootooo!

I've used solar pasteurization extensively. I'm no longer at ECHO, and I don't think the solar pasteurizer I built there is getting much use, but here is a pic in it's heyday...

It is built for free from scavenged parts. Old upright fridge (so there's no internal division of fridge/freezer, just one open and insulated cavity once the door is removed). I painted the inside with high-temp grill paint, and the cover is a sliding glass door that my neighbors replaced.

I could pasteurize 50-100 lbs of substrate in a day in there as long as the sun was shining.

Light and Love,
JD

The asian one anno posted is where its at. looks like it uses 2 mirrors as far as I can tell from the small pictures. One looks to be extremely long laying on the ground in front of the glass (or maybe plastic) box. This probably faces the sun. There appears to be another mirror directly underneath the box in one picture that reflects light to the bottoms. One of the other (bad) pictures of the solar pasteurizer shows the slanted mirror in what looks like a different position but its just a horribly cropped picture. Its basically a airtight clear box with some extra light being reflected into it through mirrors.

It says to leave them in there all day, so I bet it only gets up to about 140 or so. If it got up to 170 then they would only leave it in there for a few hours. And I highly doubt that us amateurs could come up with a better solar pasteurizer than these pros use.

That site is simply amazing though. Wish some of the pics were better :frown: They've got a real big fire powered autoclave that I would love to find the source.

Thought I'd bump this thread so you can also see Anno's very cool link to jungle stylee shroom cultivation, and add some newer plans for solar cookers that might be adaptable.

If you like electric steam, check the link in my sig.
